Me and the wife have been following it for years on Eurosport.  Carlton Kirby knows his stuff and provides good commentary.  It's the perfect antidote to post Xmas blues...

What's the  best way for someone without cable or sat. TV to watch the Dakar?  I'd buy a subscription like I do for Moto GP....Up until now all I can get are news clips.  Is that the best I can get or am I missing something on the internet?  Thanks for the iinfo in advance.

If you ever get the chance go to the scrutineering, I went a few years ago to Arras in Frnace when the start was there it was truly awesome to see the vehicles close up.

I'd love to do that.  Would have been easier for me to do in France though as I go there often enough.  I've never been to South America.  Sounds like a good excuse though...

Can't wait!

Does anyone know if:

Fretingne is riding a 2WD Yamaha this year? Now that htey are all limited to 450cc he'd have a good chance.

What the heck is a 'Super Rocket'??? One of the swedish folk has entered one

Post by: aeronca on January 01, 2010, 03:43:39 PM

Yes and I do not know.  He is listed as participating on a Yamaha 450 WRF.  is it the 2wd?? it does not say.

in the Prelude video they mentioned once 2wd saying it was converted back to one wheel.

Post by: Bixxer Bob on January 03, 2010, 06:19:35 PM
Said last night in the Eurosport commentary that the 450 is light enough not to need it so is running rear wheel only.

Thanks Mustang, I notice the 690s are running a restrictor this year too, interesting considering they were going to be banned.

Good to see a BMW up there too.

Post by: coachgeo on January 04, 2010, 02:07:02 AM
listening to one of the videos not ALL 690's are restricted.  Only the "elite" as described by the announcer.  Guy who came in 5th today/Stage II  (or is ranked 5th over all by end of today; forget which) is running unrestricted.

Dakar coverage has been very sad.

No free streaming that I can find anywhere.

Best seems to be an Australian web site for all of it. It is there to keep track of Australian participants but they have video and news of all but buggies and ATV's.   For Motorcycle another place is Ultimatemotoryceling.  Neither live.

Well I feel stupid for not looking but now that I know; I'll share.

There is a great thread on the happens of the Bikes in the Dakar 2010 at AdvRiders.  Be warned!! IT's LONG. 92 pages in three days!!! WOW.

I guess even if a biker in the Dakar farted these guys at Advriders found out and discussed it.  :D

PAL is a great rider does well every year but doesn't get full factory support, don't know why?

This is being discussed in the guestbook on Ullevålseter's home page as well, and one reasonable argument against him becoming a factory driver, is simply because he's geographically handicapped. Norway's a small marked compare to mainland Europe, I guess, and it's all about generating sales.

He'd deserve it though...

Noticed tonight he was using the same make of kit I bought, Halvassons, but then I guess cos it's Swedish it makes sense
