Title: Camping Near Banff Info needed
Post by: HappyMan on January 17, 2010, 02:27:50 AM
I'm planning my trip to Banff tonight and I'm looking for some advice on campgrounds. I'll be taking my beloved Tigger and riding advance and I'd like to be near Banff and keep it my home base and ride out from there but if you have suggestions further north I'll take them.  I do not favor staying inside the National Park system either.  When I arrive I'll be meeting other family members pulling pop ups and fifth wheelers so I need to meet their HUGE needs as well.

We will all be coming from the MN area.

Thanks in advance!   :icon_salut

A lot of the park campgrounds were still closed on mid-June when I rode up  on my Tiger.  We ended up staying about halfway up the Parkway, at a little mom 'n pop campground 2miles off the Parkway on Rt 11.

I assume you were tenting?  I found most won't allow tents in the park system.

Thanks for your input.  8)

Do they not allow tents because they present a thin nylon wrapper of delicious human meat to bears or what?

Yes, a nutritious snack!

Yes, we were tenting it.  Campground was empty, late June.  Plenty of room for the RVs too.

Lots of camping in the National Parks, not sure of outside.  And the Lake Louise campground has an area for tents and soft sided campers that is surrounded by an electric fence to keep out the bears.
