Title: Quill evo2 can
Post by: andyff013 on July 22, 2010, 09:57:30 PM
Hi to all, just wondering if anyone has any experience fitting the Quill evo2 end can to a Tiger 955? My can arrived today and fitting was straight forward until it came to fitting the mounting strap around the silencer, I just can`t get the strap to line up with the mounting point on the frame... any advice would be welcome..

When Triumph brought out the 885i in 99,i had one of,if not the first/second/third after market can(Triumph) and connecting pipe, and years later came across the same problem with a CC company :( ,it's the connecting pipe thats the problem, and hence why i have a Remus,i got fed up with doing other companys R+D.

Hi Chris, thanks for your reply. I will give the tech department at Quill a ring tomorrow and see what they have to say. But I just don`t see a way to make it fit... very frustrating!

My '02 had a small hole above the original exhaust mount.  I drilled it out big enough for the bolt and moved my exhaust up a little for better clearance to center the pipe in the factory sideboxes.

Hi Matt, many thanks for your reply and also makes it a lot clearer with the pictures  :D  I think this is the way that I will go too as I have Givi pannier frames that I would like to keep on the bike. Time to get the drill out....  Cheers Andy.

Glad I could help.  Love the Quill can.  Had a chance at a TOR can after I got it and never gave it a second thought.  The Quill sounds really good.  I had a problem getting the mid pipe to can connection to not leak on mine.  I had a friend who is a professional welder, TIG weld the connection with it on and in the right position.  Now it fits perfect and it is one piece like the factory pipe.

I did mine with a spacer as well, but in the end what you need is the Z or L shaped bracket that the Blueflame guys use.  (though when I called them they didn't know what I was talking about)

You need a bit of stainless and bending skills.

Hi guys, once again thanks for the replies,I spoke to the guys at Quill and it seems that they missed out a bracket in the kit which they have since sent me    I have fitted the can this morning and with a bit of bracket bending and drilling out of the hole it fits! And it sounds great! I will post a couple of pictures tomorrow... Once again thanks to all and to Quill also for a speedy delivery and service.

Either carry the original or order a spare, because you can bet you bottom dollar that will fracture with the pipe hanging off that bracket.

Is the bracket alloy or steel ? Alloy will fracture, you'd be better turning it so the flat piece is at the front rather than the top for extra rigidity.

Glad to see you got your exhaust on ok. I bought one of these last year, and I was mightily pissed off by the time it got to me as it took 3months to get delivered. And then, of course, I had the problem of fitting it. I really didn't want to talk to these people again, as I had been emailing them, and they were just fobbing me off, saying they had me in mind, etc. I nearly cancelled the order. Anyway, when it finally arrived, I just altered the bracket that goes around the silencer, and used the bolts from the original can. It doesn't sit square, but it's fine. I thought I was being reasonable when I emailed them saying I wasn't happy with the time it took, but they countered saying I was in the wrong, and not in the spirit of the biking community!!

I ran a Triumph race can on both 885i's that i had and then put it on my 955,decided i wanted something different, and along the way had the same experience as above with CCC(Carbon Cab Company) and A.N. Other, just sent e'm back and told e'm to do their own R+D,and bought a Remus.

So not putting up with bad service is not in the spirit of biking?  Which planet are these people on?  Folks will always vote with their feet..

The bracket is made of steel and when I drilled one of the holes out knackered four drill bits so seems to be quite hard ( unless its my cheap drill bits! ). If I undo the top bracket the pipe sits in the same position with the weight taken at the point where the connector pipe joins the main header pipe down by the footpeg.
I`ve done 500 miles and up to now all seems well, so fingers crossed :D

I had a similar experience dealing with Quill.  They answered my first email, and then never responded again.  I'd call and leave a message, and they wouldn't call back.  Then I got a shipping quote that was astronomical for some small parts.

I loved the exhaust but I'd be hard pressed to do business with them again.

Hi EB, up to now for me I am quite pleased with the pipe and service from Quill although its probably easier for us in the UK being in the same country!
On another note if you need any bits for anything sending over to the states let us know we may be able to find a cheaper way.. That goes for anybody else too your side of the pond.
