Title: Corrosion - love that British weather
Post by: crustycrutch on September 11, 2010, 12:30:49 PM
I've been stripping my Steamer in readiness for a complete renovation job. My biggest issue is corrosion due to 17 years of British weather and the dreaded road salt.

I couldn't believe the state of the exhaust studs and nuts! Two of the nuts had corroded away completely - the little ring in the foreground of the pic of the studs is all that was left.

The strange thing is that the exhaust system itself is in pretty good condition and will only need a good wire brushing and a coat or two of PJ1.

The exhaust on the Girly is stainless, aren't they the same on the steamer?

Stainless?  Nah, we're all running iron oxide.
