Post by: ua99003 on September 11, 2010, 10:10:41 PM
Just got a 955i Tiger ... Seller stated it was an 05. Started looking around this site and others and realized it may be an 06. The bike is Blue in color and has a manufactor date of 11/05. Did triumph in 05 offer a blue tiger ???

It may be because we used to have this cookie system for the year letter on registration which changed on the first of August.

So our year letter which latterly was a prefix went for example:

A 263 KBW which was a car/bike registered first in 1982, on the first of August this became:

B 356 HGR, so the year letter at the start says this is a 1983 car/bike but it was actually still 1982!

Make any sense? No thought not

That's OK. Some (not all) of the States used to title cars and bikes as to the year that they were initially registered, which is not necessarily the year that the manufacturer sold them as. So early 1966s would be titled as 1965s.

Too, in the US, manufacturers are allowed to declare a vehicle as being a certain model year for 18 months. Case in point: the 1965 Mustang was sold from April 1964 to September 1965.

IIRC this dates back (at least in the UK) to the 1950s or even earlier when the Earls Court bike show was in the autumn. New models for the next year would be announced then and would go into production around the same time. So the 1956 show would have 1957 MY bikes.

It's an 05 model as that was when they were first made in Caspian Blue
