I find that alot of the motorcyclist online info differs from my views on the Tiger. I have the chance to ride alot of different bikes. The bmw 1150 and 1200adv models and the vstrom. I think the shake down is quite different, atleast for my 01 tiger. For the type of riding I do the tiger is alltogether a better bike then the 1200adv. it is solid and reasuring on the road with the BMW seems flighty anf light on the front. The 1150 adv doesn't have that feel at all and is a better bike for it. I like the 1150 adv and could live with that bike. Big tank, stable and nice off-road as well. That is until you come to studder bumbs and the BMW fancy suspension can not keep up with the inputs, and that is with Ohlins shocks fitted. The V-strom isn't even in the same league.
I have had one of the loaded and did not like the way it handled at all. Riding these bikes they were all loaded. I seledom ride with out a load, all had panniers. the V-strom on the tiger were stock suspension. the 1200 had ohlins and one 1150 adv was stock with the other had lowered ohlins. All bikes were out fitted with touring screens and seats, along with aftermarket pegs and risers/ bars. I think the closest match is the 1150 gsa and that would come down to minor picks on either bike

I saw some from a RR you did a couple of years ago when you rode out to the dragon. There was one of you on the dragon with your panniers a draggin'. Pretty darned impressive.
I still miss my KLR and will replace it when I can afford to. My Tiger has been a fantastic bike for the type of riding I've been doing for the last couple of years. Comfortable, capable, and dependable. I even rode it to a KLRworld gathering in Moab last summer. They are a great group of people to hang out with.
