I can't make it until the last Sat, the 3rd Chris.  Not even shopping for anything this yr as I got my wife a new Venice / Shannon suit for Xmas in the Hein Gericke sale.  Spoilt she is!!!

Looking forward to seeing the Tiger although I don't think I'll be buying one.  The old Girly and the 'Bird do all I need.  Even the 'Bird doesn't get much use these days.

I find myself hankering for a go at green laning now I have so much time on my hands, but wouldn't know where to start, or where I could go legally within a reasonable distance.  Maybe I should research it a bit.

no. I'm giving it a miss (again  :) ) this year - last time was just an excuse to meet up with some friends as theres not much 'stuff' I need, nor much in the new bike ranges I want to look at..

BB - off at a tangent, theres quite a good resource for looking for 'green lanes' here..
http://www.trailwise.org.uk/gmaps/gmap.htm (http://www.trailwise.org.uk/gmaps/gmap.htm)

and for your neck of the woods.

If I end up with another bike at any point it'll be a small trailie as I've a hankering to do this, althouhg up here despite being in the middle of nowhere, theres hardly any 'legal' trails to ride

Well I all but gave up road riding for 10 years and raced an enduro bike, most of the Welsh one dayers and the Weston Beach race etc,the problem with any kind of trail/off road riding you better make sure you bounce well, because it's no good faffing about like you can on a road bike, you need to be comitted.

If you do go that route, nothing bigger than a 250,golden rule at some time you'll either have push/pull or carry it!!,I'd dearly love to go back to it,but i've a good memory,I haven't forgotten the pain.

But it's were you will learn to ride a bike, riding on the road you'll never learn bugger all apart from how to survive, when your on an offroad bike and the front is going one way and the back the other and it's yee haa ride e'm cowboy  :D

Join the TRF BB, they'll give you access to Trailwise for your area, you'll also find someone with locally marked maps.

Me I'm going as a guest of Norton this year apparently, Monday 29th with a friend  8)

Mate of mine took it up recently - joining the local trf (South Devon)  set him up lots of advice on kit and riding and group rides to find the lanes you ride legit in the local area. He went straight to a KTM400, but TTR250 was the recommended tool of choice for a novice. He is lovin it,

trail riding is "the best fun you can have with your clothes on" but remember the older you get the longer it takes to heal after a drop.
I started on a KLX250 around the peak distrint & last year got knocked off my KLR250 on the road so now have 2 road bikes but pining for another dirt bike

Well went today, incase we woke up to 6" of snow tomorow,we don't travel a distance so hardly qualified to pass comment on good or bad show, but had a very good social day,as trade day it wasn't,but pleasant enough anyway, and if you go have a look at the 955 covered in crap with all the bells and whistles on the Touratech stand, and if you lucky the owner will be there to chat.

Same set of hand guards!!,interesting look on their face when they've already had your pants down, and then inform you the bits that fit on the top of them are extra

We also have two helmets in the pipe line but thats a separate story.

They are advertising a new inertia-operated system that doesn't need connecting to your vacuum system.  It senses forward movement of the bike and opens the oil valve - so no more issues with voiding manufacturers warranty by cutting into the vacuum pipes and no dripping when it's ticking over on the driveway.  Well that's the theory anyway!!

Pricey though... http://www.scottoiler.com/uk/esystem/esystem.html (http://www.scottoiler.com/uk/esystem/esystem.html)

Was up there yesterday, it was fairly quiet then, got a seat on the new Tigger, luggage won't be any better than the Girly stuff, and the height feels the same as the Girly, not as wide but then that doesn't bother me about mine anyway. Nice bike but I think I'll hang on and see what the 1200 brings.

Walked on the Triumph stand looked at the new 800 road and offroad together on that revolving turn table, one revolution and walked off  :( ,serious off roaders riding something smaller, serious road riders want something bigger.

Sit on it??,far more important things like cake and coffee  :D

Finally got to the show today.  Absolutely love the new Moto Guzzi V7 retro cafe racer with the clip-ons, chrome tank and red frame, click on Immagini at the lower left side for pics (which don't do it justice - go see one if you can):

http://www.motoguzzi.it/#/motoguzzi/IT/ ... r/V7-Racer (http://www.motoguzzi.it/#/motoguzzi/IT/it/moto/naked/V7-Racer/V7-Racer)

Didn't know that Metisse were still building bikes, but they are!!

Looked again at the Stelvio MTX - seems a good bike at the price considering it comes fully dressed - what's the trade view Chris C?  Not good enough to oust the Girly I think though.

1600 BMW doesn't look or feel any bigger than the 1300 GT and is just as ugly.

Liked both 800 Tigers; height didn't seem any better or worse than the Girly.

Didn't like the Speed Triple, I suppose it might grow on me in time.

Had a right laugh sitting on a Rocket 3 - wasn't keen on the arms-forward legs-forward position and my legs weren't long enough to reach the cruiser pegs!!

Really liked the KTM 990 Adventure - only bike I tried that immediately felt right standing on the pegs - but don't need anything that extreme.

So I'll be keeping my cash for now... :D

I've ridden a KTM 990 Adventure and realy liked it, if I was doing more off road stuff I think I would go for one. But for mainly road riding/touring I'll stick to me Tiger.

Obviously not your cup of tea but for me it sounds perfect. I want a bike that combines good solo touring with the ability to go up the dirt tracks in the mountains after I've dumped the luggage in the hotel, and should be light enough to pick up if the inevitable happens. To me it's middle ground between my Tiger and my Scrambler.

IMO the 1200s are for those wanting two up touring and like to kid themselves that they'll take it off road.

I've aready said it elsewhere, but I'm hoping the 1200 is a resurrected Trophy but with up to date styling and shaft drive - not interested in a 1200 ADV.  If they've dusted off the work they did on a bike to match the 'Bird and 'Busa that'll be a good start.  I've ridden two of the three competitors (BMW 1300GT, GTR 1400 not the FJR) and the Kwak came closest to my 'Bird but wasn't better (slightly more comfy slightly less grunt less smooth and a lot bigger).  The 1300GT just didn't feel like a £15k bike, despite what the press say about it.

I just can't believe they want £15k for  poxy motorbike, where the hell do they get their prices from
