I hope to make it this year, but I wont vote on a date because work is a very moveable feast at the moment and I wont know if I am available until nearer the date.

I hope I can make it though.

I can't vote either because the roster at work is rumoured to be getting a big shake up in May.
Whatever date is chosen, I'll attend if I can. Glad you like the Golden Swan. It looks ideal for what we want.

Just you and me the Bob!  (and the D of E girls) which we can use as subjects to photograph our bikes with...  Perfect....

Oh yeh, any date will do me I have no plans for July..

June is a bike trip to the Med and a rally in Germany  and August is the Pyrenees and possibly a Swedish rally.

July will be a dull month for me otherwise  :D

I have not voted for a particular date as any of them will do for me so I will go with the majority vote. :)

I've said 9th-10th as I go away the first week August so that gives me plenty of time to get the caravan etc ready. Could do the 16th-17th but anything after that and I'll struggle. What ever is decided I'll do my best to get there.

Title: 23rd & 24th.
Post by: blacktiger on February 23, 2011, 08:18:26 PM
OK I've voted for the 23/24th because, at the moment they're rest days off work. If the roster changes, or another date is chosen, I'll book it off
anyway.
Only fly in the ointment for me on that weekend is that I'm late shift that week so, probably, won't be able to get there Friday night.
Anyway keep voting.

And.....by the way Bixxer (John) Bob, there is another weekend in July that you've missed off the poll. i.e. 2nd & 3rd. ?????????????????????????

Don't know if a decision has been made yet.  But I forgot one major event that might be interesting if we meet on the right date. (23/7)

It's this....

http://calnebikes.freehostia.com/ Crappy website, but it's normally an interesting day. I did a topic thingy on it last year...

http://tigertriple.com/forum/index.php/topic,8212

There are normally stalls, autojumble stuff, a band or two, a trials bike exhibition and millions of bikes.

Calne is 15 miles from the Swan Inn.  One thing to bear i mind is that the traffic police will be out in force mind!  How many traffic police? Well, normally all of them, ever!

How about this then Chris, In the 80's I used to supply parts and stuff to a garage in S London called BWB Motors. They specialised in Citroen and the guys there had a 2CV Drag Racer that ran on meth, I kid you not.

An extra bit of pointless info, BWB's garage was part of what was left of the old Allard Motor Company, look em up, lovely old cars.

Aahh, not totally uniformed.  Tried to do the points on a 2CV once, seems the took a set of contact breakers and built a car around them.  That experience, added to forays into servicing Renaults and early Citroens let me to believe the French know nothing of designing in serviceability  :)

Anyway, back to the plot.  I'll PM BT and see about getting it booked.

Interesting idea but personally, I'd rather go for a long ride and show people the sights around the whole district than just go and look at loads of bikes.
There's so much to see for those that haven't visited the area before. i.e Stone Henge, Cain Locks, Salisbury Plain, Gold Hill in Shaftsbury (Hovis adverts) plus the great scenery.
And, whilst the old bill are dealing with that lot in Calne, we can be ripping it up elsewhere.
Of course, there may be too many turn up for one ride out and we'll probably need to split up so most tastes can be catered for.

To be honest it's probably possible to do both fairly easily.  The furthest point you mention, Shaftesbury, is only 1hr ish away, stone henge and cain hill are (nearly) en route....Just depends what people wanna do.  (I'm easy- seen it all before, here to help really)

You could incorporate some of the following into the ride:

Avebury Stone Circle
Any number of White Horses
West Kennet Long Barrow
Any number of Bronze Age barrows
George White massive shop complex and factory outlet in Swindon.  The triumph dealer is next door btw. (one for Sunday on the way home?)
Blitzing over millions of byways on the Salisbury Plain
Iron Age Hillforts, we got lots.
Old Sarum in Salisbury.  (I fell off last time I went there though.  Mrs C not impressed)
Salisbury Cathedral

Or just getting on some big empty-ish road country roads and going for it.  We got lots.

Oh and we need a river fording moment don't we?

Right. Bad news....ish.
Landlord of the Golden Swan just phoned me back and says they have a booking pencilled in for a group of trail riders for that weekend. Although they have plenty of camping space, he doesn't think their kitchen would be able to cope with two groups eating in the evenings.
So, as it's only a pencilled in booking, he's going to call the other lot and find out if they want to make it a concrete booking.
He said he hopes to know by this weekend and will call me to let me know the result.
We could, of course, promise to eat somewhere lunch times and do the camp cooking thing and just drink lots of their excellent beer in the evenings.
Or we could go for another date.
Anyway, lets wait until he calls back.

RIGHT FOLKS!
We're in for the 22nd, 23rd & 24th of July. :hello2  :hello2  :hello2   The other lot copped out.
So, the location is :- http://www.thegoldenswan.co.uk/ (http://www.thegoldenswan.co.uk/)
Landlord, Peter, says they can cope with about 30 for evening dinner. Ideally he'd like an idea of numbers closer to the date. I presume for getting supplies in.
So spread the word to all the Tiger owners you know and lets all pray for good weather. :XXsunsmile

If it's the 'WOMAD' Festival you're referring to KK, I think, (luckily :!: ) Chalton park is the North side of the M4 corridoor, about an hour away!  :D

Could be a bad idea combining beer music and PCs, but had an idea just before going to sleep last night, how about a clinic at the meet in July.
Not that sort of clinic but a bike one, I would be prepared to bring my relic of a laptop (it' a bit slow) and a gas tester if the publican wouldn't mind supplying some volts, if someone could bring a small gazebo (to keep out the searing heat of the sun), and a battery charger.
What is the opinion out there? Just an idea.

Sounds like it could be a plan.

Let's see, if I tow the bike down on the trailer with the motorhome, I could bring a gazebo and a generator.......  And I get to sleep in the motor  :D

I'll bring my laptop and gas tester as well so we'll have plenty of resources... what about carb balancer?   On second thoughts that involves taking tanks off so not a good idea

I just thought I'd register interest in the UK Tiger Meet and say hello at the same time. Some of you visit my own website, ashonbikes.com so you'll know I'm a bike journalist, and lucky me, I've just collected an 800XC from Hinckley today as my long term test bike.

It's well specced, with the Triumph panniers, ABS, heated grips, Arrows exhaust and spots, it's orange, and hopefully I'll be putting quite a few miles on it, though I do also have a long term Multistrada (that's a foreign bike...) which needs firing up now and then too.

As for the meet, I'm not sure yet, but the will is there, I just hope the diary plays along too. You did say beer and 19 year old girls?

Cheers!

I put some miles onto my 800 yesterday and called into the Golden Swan. Landlord tells me that he's closed Friday afternoon between 3pm & 6pm UNLESS there's a good posse knocking on the door.
I was planning to arrive at around 3pm with a few bottles if the weather's good. I think if it's raining I'll aim for about 5pm.

Also he'd like, if possible, some idea of numbers wanting to eat in the pub. I said it's unlikely we can give him an accurate number right up until we're all there.
I think it would be a good idea to come prepared for camp cooking just in case he can't cope with all 100 of us. Actually, he said they can cope with 30 all at once and 40 if the eating times are staggered.

Good to meet nickcalne whilst there. And the Waddies Horizon was gorgeous.

I'm aiming at getting there around 4.00pm on the Friday, with the same idea as yourself Blacktiger. Once setup, a couple of lazy beers around the tent socializing! (Weather permitting!) and then one or two (maybe three or four!) in the pub when it opens.
The landlord can count on me for requiring meals. (My cooking sucks!) also, if he does breakfast, all the better!

Thinking on, the landlord might need to order a spare barrel of that there Waddies Horizon just in case! We wouldn't want run to out now, would we  :?:

For anyone that has Garmin Mapsource and wants to look at the proposed routes for the ride on Saturday 23rd, I've uploaded them into the UK_tiger_rides Yahoo group..... http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/uk_ ... es/Routes/ (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/uk_tiger_rides/files/Routes/)
Unless you're already in a Yahoo group you'll have to create a password etc and join the group to see the file.
It's the only place I could think of that I could upload a .gdb file.

P.S. I've also uploaded the routes in .gpx format for anyone that needs to convert it to match TomTom or anything else.

Those are just the dirt roads sections. I haven't ridden these Byway routes for some time so I don't know their condition but, if dry, they should be OK for all types of Tiger........just!
I'm down that way again next weekend visiting my parents so I'll see if I can divert and have a look at them.

This lane was easy because it has been graded along most of its length. Doable even when wet on all Tigers.

One of the many good views from this lane.

Hi Guys,

Add one to the list (maybe two if 't missus comes too).

Only proviso I have is that the tendons in my right shoulder heal enough to ride.  Tore them in a fall a month ago, had an operation to sort that out, now the Doc  Physio say maybe I can drive in a couple of weeks time.

They didnt say 'nowt about not riding though.  Seriously if I don't have full control I won't risk it.

Hope to see you all in July.

Cheers

Wife!??  Lets not get too hasty now.  All in good time.

Driving will be plan B

Otherwise I'll have to ride pillion on her 250 Rebel (she has restriced licence till Mar 12) and she's never carried a pillion - or a weekends worth of luggage (or both together).

Will do my best to be there one way or another.

Cheers

Yer Right!!

A few years back we spent a couple of weeks camping & touring around Normandy  Britanny on Tiger had a great time.

Last week we were touring around the Loire Valley  Cognac region in her MG TF, again had a great time (except I lost my camera)

We saw one other MG TF and NO Tigers at all.  Oh the shame of it.

We both reckon Tiger has more luggage capacity!!  Certainly more fun.

Au revoir

Grub? Of course yes. Saturday, please. Please provide half decent weather. I wasn't born a POM, so I'm not genetically inured against the vagaries of the British summer. It's a hard and fast rule of mine not to get out of bed if more than an inch of rain falls between dawn and 9 am. I can handle just about anything else.

So, there are 5 people that Haven't picked up the PM I sent you all. i.e. it's still in my outbox. They are :-
Bixxer Bob, Last TigerTriple post June 20th.

Tappets, last TigerTriple post March 7th.
Going by their last post date I reckon the last 3 probably have disappeared.
The other two could well be on holiday or just away.

I don't think I know John Stenhouse but He wrote that he can't do the date.
Bixxer Bob, being one of the driving forces behind this get together, MUST be coming. So I think I'll add him to the food list. Someone going to second that motion?

Guys, finally got on line after 2 weeks of BT trying to put a phone line in and failing (why am I not surprised...   )

Anyway, due to a combination of the house being in a mess as we try to cure damp, put in central heating and a new kitchen, and on top of that the news this evening that my mother's seriously ill,  I won't be at the meet this year.

I know you were all looking forward to me trying to drown my Tiger so I hope you won't be too disappointed, but there's always next year.  Take care peeps,  BB

You'll be sorely missed Bixxer, but I think I speak for everyone when I say, I hope all turns out well for you with the move / renovations & hope your mother gets well soon!
Like you say, we can do it all again some other time :!:

Maybe a winter meet guys :?:

That's bad news all round John. As you say; there's always next year. I hope everything turns out for the best.

Can you send the money for your round?  :occasion14

Checking on here http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ ... ather.html (http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html) it's showing the sun looking round a white cloud for Saturday. Looks OK if not wall to wall sunshine.
You might get some rain if you're coming down Friday.
Sunday IS showing wall to wall sunshine.

I would think about 10 same as last year.(correct me if I,m wrong). I,m all packed and setting off in a couple of hours for nearly 300 miles of riding so about the same journey time as you.

I was thinking of 10am to leave as there's a lot of attractions to see on the route. e.g. Avebury stones & Stone Henge + others.
I think we'll spend 15~20 minutes at each stop so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding us if you have the route.

Sorry to those that turned up late and missed the ride. Hope you enjoyed the pub talk anyway. :friday

First off a huge thanks to the organiser what an excellent site and pub.  Landlord very friendly too.  Arranged good weather too.

Great to start putting faces to names too.

I turned up late so missed the group ride but headed off to explore on my own.  Avebury Ring, Woodhenge, some canal locks etc - it's a brilliant area to explore.  Some of the road across Salisbury plain were designed for Tigers to hurtle across.  So I did.

After a couple of hours I went back to the pub and chewed the fat with Steve(blue steamer) and Simon(BMW).  Nice guys.

Once Anne tuned up with house on wheels we took Honey the hound off for a walk alone the Kennet and Avon Canal.  Whatever you say about bringing a camper at least we were warm in there and coffee was on tap.

As has been poined out where were all the 1050 AND all the other 885efi s ???- I was the only one.  Shame on you all.

Look forward to the next meet

Take care out there

A fantastic weekend.  It was good to see those people from last years event as well as meeting a few new faces this year.  And, as someone has said, it is good to make a faceless name on a forum more "human" by meeting the person on the other end of the wire.

Thanks to Robbie for the bacon and egg, that was great first thing Saturday.

Thanks to blackTiger for turning my Fig Rolls and apples (that were sat in my top box) into mush along the "It gets better from here" off road route we took.

The actual route we took and the time can be seen here:

I'll tell anyway.
Well, poor old Tappets forgot to turn left at a bend in the road. Fortunately or unfortunately (???) there was a 15 foot high earth bank to crash into. The fortunately bit was that the earth bank had a nice thick and soft growth of grass and other foliage to break the impact. The unfortunately bit was that once the impact had been broken, the bike and rider then landed form a fair height back into the road......Ooofff! Ouch!
Hope the bruises are healing Tappets and that the bike is repairable.

Chairhead does it every year.  I cracked up at the photo of having to stand the cans of (frozen) beer in hot water so they could drink them

BlackTiger, it seems like your suggestion about them joining us fell on deaf ears. One lad did say that it should be open to all Tigers and not just the 800 but keep the forum informed of any changes or plans. I'll start a thread in the new year about our meet.

Yes, it did seem that way but hey, it's not as if this forum had to have the exclusive rights to Tiger meets. We'll have to wait to see what they come up with. It could be a damp squib with no-one wanting to do much.

Eh?
Bit off topic old boy.
OK so the 955 Tiger does a constant high 50s and doesn't really matter how it's ridden. Although I find I don't need to rev it above 5K to make good progress.
The 800XC does low 50s when really enjoying myself but can get 10mpg more by reducing the acceleration rate.

sorry it was just the mention of the gathering being oprganised by the 800 forum, and I was just pre-empting the talk around the campfire as its a bit of a contentious subject 'over there' !  :D  :D
