855i centre stand going over centre.

Ok when I got my tiger, I noticed that the centre stand rattled a little.  There was wear on the pivot pins.  I made new oversize bushings to use so the stand is working with no slack.  Only issue I see now os the stand seems to over throw when you use it to the point that the rear wheel all but touches the ground.

Any ideas ? I think the stop pin may be worn or bent.

redo slash realign the stop pins to make up for wear and what ever changes happened as a result of redoing the pivots

or

redo slash realign the pivots to work better with the stop points.

since you bought it used, is it the right centerstand?  Meaning has it been shortened or modded in the past to work with a skid plate or something.

The centre stand was low when I first got the tiger.  Got hold of the stand and you could wiggle it on the pivots.  Made the holes in the center stand round again and then made some 14mm bushes.

As far as I am aware, the bike didn't have a skid pan or any mods to stand according to PO.

Trying to find out if the mounts or anything else can flex/bend from other owners.

Sounds like you have access to a lathe, if so make a couple more bushes but this time bore the centre out off centre and refit with the larger part to the bottom. Ensuring you get them both lined up when you press them in will be tricky bit, use the through bolt to keep them lined up.

Alternatively weld a 6mm pad on the bottom of the legs, you can always add a bit more if needed and can experiment before hand just lifting it onto some loose pads. The only down side to this method is you're adding weight to the extreme end which might tax the spring and you'll get a clack going over sharp bumps.
I used to have long hair, took acid and went to hip joints. Now I long for hair, take antacid and need a new hip joint

I would be inspecting the stand and pivot mounting very carefully for any signs of weakness, particularly welds and stress areas, the SW-Motech stand is very solid - even slightly over-engineered, but some others I believe are not built so well.  Sounds like its used a lot.

Any chance anyone can post up some close up pics of their stand/mounts etc so i can compare? Measurments would be even better

Just trying to nail down the problem.

Next on the agender is some engine crash bars that i need to make.

what you have is the Triumph original stand, it's about as good as a chocolate teapot, they bend as you found out, the two faults you've found are the problem with the satnd the pivots wear and bend, you've corrected that and they go over centre, the side plates wear and bend allowing the stand to go too far, either do some more mods to that one or get the SW motech one, I gave up with mine and fitted the SW one after I found that the pins were loose and came out.
