Blue smoke from exhaust

I recently won a drag race on the ol' steamer, and when the CBR rider pulled up next to me at the light, he notified me that my bike had blue smoke coming from the tail pipes. The exhaust has no smoke when idling, so I figure the smoke is a result of operating near redline. Is this something to be worried about, or is it just "normal" oil burn for a machine of the '96 vintage?
