if you was goin to replace the forks on your steamer with a set of upside downies. what forks would you choose ? im lookin to keep the ride height the same as it is now so theyve gotta be long ones or at least be able to be lengthened some how.
i remeber seein someone on here with ktm forks but cant seem to find the thread now

i've never been a big fan of usd forks on a dualsport app.  there's too many standard cartridge forks from older mx and enduro bikes to choose from  that fit right in the tiger triple clamps.  easier to mod up axles, brake caliper mounts, etc.  once you get the oil viscosity and springs right, you have adjustability on both ends.

I looked into usd forks before i fitted the trophy wheels, couldn`t find anything that came close, think the longest ones i found were about 4 inches too short.

dual sports not really a problem to me ned. i dont use it off road so i dont have probs with it havin to soak up big bumps.

cheers mustang thats the one i was lookin at. just a shame it only has one disc

I suppose once you think through this problem that it becomes a hell of a job.  Assuming that you find a set of upside downers the right length then:

- You might need new yokes for the forks, probably custom made to keep everything else in the right place etc. Bearings, ignition barrel, stops etc
- The wheel fixing would be different so probably a new front wheel entirely, including brake rotors and speedo mechanism
- You would need new brake calipers to suit the forks and rotor.  How does this affect the cables and the lever stuff?
- Does the speedo then work with the gauge?
- Mudguard
- Tyre
- Oil, seals and any specialist tools...

That said it sounds like a very interesting project - Go on Rybes, you can do it!

They will probably be WP 4846MXMA as fitted to ktm husaberg ccm including the ktm 990 adventure. I bought a set on ebay for 20gbp a few weeks back as spares for my little ccm thumper. The stock triple clamps are meaty enough, there are supermoto wheels around if you dont want 21" biggest issue is single disc. But you could use 2 left hand forks to get caliper mounts on both sides. Just did  a  quick measure fork spacing is about the same at 190mm so is pretty good starting point.

Probably the entire front end from a 990 adventure woild get you going

but nic, its a challenge aint it  lol im still tryin to work out how to get a 1050 swingarm in me steamer. 

cheers kendall  id be alright to use 2 lefts then for dual discs ? most of the forks i know are handed because of the caliper mount. definatly summink ill look into tho

Had a closer look at mine the caliper mount is offset so if you  used 2 lefts its going to have to have some sort of spacers on one side.  But the 990 adventure is twin disc so a handed pair could be found.  The axel / caliper casting screws onto the lower slider so probably could get this part to convert a single disc set of forks into dual. If you google wp 4860mxma service manual youll readily find it which is a great referebce  for these forks.

Ps they are 36" top to the axel centre uncompressed, the steamer measured about 35" on the side stand not sure how much sag  i have got. But  there not far apart.

Rybes - I love a challenge, especially when someone else is doing it.  Have you thought about Yamaha Super Tenere forks?  They are probably less expensive than KTM ones. Probably...
