The problem is that I have no idea how to download a map from the TuneEcu site let alone upload it to the bike or even save the original map from the bike.

As an engineer myself I can see where you are with this.
It's not a case of hitting it with a hammer.......It's where to hit it and how hard.

Put a search into your pc and look up TuneEcu.
Read all the instructions on the site about how to use/install/change maps etc. Not trying to pass the buck but a good understanding is required before you go near a bike with the lead and pc.
Do one bit at a time and understand what you have done by installing the programme in your computer, it is straight forward and easy enough just take your time and avoid distractions.

It is a very useful tool to have in your toolbox, even if it is just to reset the TPS or check and test the IACV. What are those I hear you ask, it is all answered in the text on TuneEcu.
If you get stuck then shout up.

The theory that Ian demonstrated is what you are looking to achieve as this is one of the processes to eliminate surging, it is just changing numbers in boxes which takes us back to the hammer!!
