Do I understand the rear preload adjuster correctly:

A lower number preload is effectively stiffer, less suspension travel, and lower, and is therefore more suited to shorter people, lighter people, 1 up riders, and sportier/tarmac handling.

A higher number is softer, more travel and higher and therefore more suited to taller, heavier, 2 up or heavily packed riding, and rougher roads/dirt.

Yes/No?  When I picked up my (used) bike, it was set to 5.  I've just set it down to 2 and I think I like it there better.  We'll see.

No.

1 is soft, 5 is hard.

I'm 200lbs and run mine at 2&3/4 solo. 3~3&1/2 with luggage.

You probably like it better at 2 because you've now got some movement in the suspension. Don't forget to control it with the adjustable damping.
