Steering head bearing tool

Hi Guys, anyone managed to satisfactorily retighten the steering head bearing locknut without using the riduculously overpriced Triumph tool(s)?

Thought it may have been time to change the bearings as cornering was very unpleasant in the wet but I now suspect the dimwit who had the Bike before me just tightened both nuts up together, making the preload too great. As it is they appear to have been replaced with taper rollers in good condition. Maybe time for a new front tyre...

As a side note, everything on this bike seems to need cutting off or drilling out, a 10 minute job always takes an hour or more, I guess abuse from former owners is largely to blame (?)

Cheers
