I need to remove the clutch cover to put in the longer clutch arm (to do the mod giving a little easier clutch pull).  Do I need to drain the oil before I remove the clutch cover?  How much oil will come out if I don't?

if you can lean it over against a wall so that it has a good lean(a little more than if it was on side stand ) you can pull the cover without losing any .
just make sure no grit or gasket material falls in or you'll be changing the oil anyway
