Tune advice please

Have just modded the airbox by removing the snorkel plate & adding a second inlet 1 1/2" dia at right hand side front, + new K&N filter.

Next to fit is a long big bore ss oval can.

Its a 2005 Tiger 955i, so whats the best map to use ?

I'd prefer to take it to a dealer or specialist to do if poss,
as i dont have access to a laptop at the mo.

Am in S.Yorkshire.

As the person I guess who first promoted the blanking plate removel,my concern when I did it was 'Would the motor go bang when I was wringing it's neck'.which despite rather muted 'Yeah it'll be all right we think'!!!,I was never happy till I had an absolutely gung ho ride with the throttle on the stop for the best part of 50 miles(heading from Milan to Genoa and many since  :roll: ).

You have taken it a step further,I didn't take the snorkel out because of any problem I might have with water,and the extra hole you have drilled into the air box takes you into unchartered waters,were the line in the sand is between the offroad tune sufficing and you need a a custom map because of increasing the extra air I don't know.

What I can tell you,having recently done the same kind of thing with an XT660X ie introducing ALOT more air to the motor and I knew the motor was boarder line,rather than the hassle of a PC, fitted a fuel mod and with ability to introduce more fuel gave a marked improvment.

So the bottom line,be carefull your treading a fine line,is the removal of the snorkel and an extra hole the straw that that breaks the camels back I don't know and any answers you get make sure folks have put it to the test and not just bimbling about and tell you it's ok.

I was happy to put my name to the blanking plate,but not the rest.

The strange thing is the 885 airbox had two holes and two snorkels, only when the 955 appeared the similar looking airbox has only one????

I am hoping that this is just another way of strangling the engine even more to get them through emissions testing as can not see a logical reason otherwise. (larger capacity engine breathing through less)

Removing the internal baffle plate on mine made a marginal difference to noise, but in theory will let the engine see a larger plenum, a theory Yamaha worked on for years with claimed results of better running.

As long as your baro sensor is working ok, the ECU will take care of it.  you're allowing more air in upstream of the filter, where the temp sensor is.  The  baro senses the pressure after the air filter and uses that reading plus the temp to work out how much oxygen is available, reads the throttle position, engine temp and rpm, looks at the fuel maps and then opens the fuel injectors accordingly.  BUT your baro must be spot on.  No leaks anywhere.....

Airbox mod involved removing the complete internal plate and drilling an additional 1 1/2" inlet in the rh front of the airbox, plus a k&n internal filter.
The original lh inlet & snorkel was left intact.
The addition of a big bore aftermarket can & the 10173 tune ,
transformed my 05 955 Tiger !
A good 90 miles later found;
The low speed 2500 injection surge is gone, it fuels really smoothly throughout the rev range, and now pulls and revs like a 955 speedy, with a lot more poke throughout the range !
Initially mixture feels good, but will need to read the end can and plug chop in much colder weather.
Having owned 1050 ST & 955Speedy, the Tiger feels it could hold its own and pull a bigger tooth up front 8)

Four months on & the mods are fine,

just purchased a spare inlet trumpet for the additional right hand inlet port,

purely to help optimise air flow into the airbox.

While I had the airbox of for my 24k mile service, I took my mod a bit further. Completly removed the inner plate & enlarged the left side and added an equal size opening on the right side. TOR pipe & 10121 tune. 3k on it like this & no problems at all.
I live in a very moderate climate. 15 inches of rain a year is alot. So if it's raining, I'm probably driving the truck.
Now how I arrived at this is simple. Measured the injector runner dia. Calculated area x3. Enlarged openings to match.
The small openings in the airbox do alot to control how loud the bike is, as much as they restrict the engine performance. In the auto industry, they call them a resonator. It dampens the intake pulse. Why do you think they sound so sweet when you remove the inner plate with a stock pipe? All that intake sound! :D  In stock trim, all you hear is cam drive noise.
I figure as long as the sensors are all working correctly, the ECU can compensate for the increased airflow.
