If you go cheap and use spacers to stiffen up the front end, will this adversely affect the handling in the bumpy/rocky stuff?

all you are doing with the spacers is adding some preload to the springs , it isn't going to change much in the subpar performance  the forks already have  :D

stay with 5 wt oil and some spacers and the forks should be fine  for you , just remember you aint never going to get them to perform like a crf 450 front end  :shock:

Are Hagon progressive springs worth the money/effort?

Racetech lists cartridge emulators that fit the steamer forks.  I bought a set but sadly have not had time to install them.

I added about two inch extra spacers and the handling improved enough for me. Still some diving with hard breaking but way less than before.
Bike sits higher also which I like 8)

The guy who´s doing the emulator/overhaul job on mine(http://www.esp1tech.no/), claims that simply adding cartridge emulators will, in most circumstances, just make the forks stiffer. According to him you have to tune the springs, oil viscosity and the emulator to the friction, weight, travel and what kind of riding you do.

I know he´s selling his own services when he speaks thus, so take it for a quote and not my opinion. But he´s renown for being one of the best suspension specialist in Norway.

So if I wanted a nicer street ride from the front, would a heavier oil and 2 inch spacers mute the effect of the dive brakeing?

But for off-road just the spacers?

start with 1 inch spacers and 10 wt oil you may be pleasantly surprised ...........

Hi, what fork oil is in them from stock? I am going to do the spacer 5wt oil mod first before i spend out on progressive springs, what cc of oil is in each leg when i drain the old stuff out?

ive been thinkin that when i rebuild my forks, im gunna make a preload adjuster. was thinkin of drillin and threadin the top nut and addin some kinda adjustin thingy. dunno how im gunna do it till ive done it tho.

why not just get one from a thunderchicken sport  ,or early speed triple or any of the other t309/409 based bikes that had adjustable preload caps

Yup, i`ve got a pair of adjusters that i`m fitting that i got from early Daytona forks  :)

I have had a set of Hagon progressives fitted for 3 or 4 years. They certainly reduce dive under braking and improve cornering. Previously I had standards with heavier oil. These are better than that set up, although I never did get around to fitting spacers.
