Pillion seat lock cable snapped any tricks?

Seat lock cable has snapped! Well the inside metal cable not the plastic outter sheath. A new cable seems a waste at 15quid! Could I use a bicycle brake cable and cut to length then just tie a knot in it?  Any ideas?

Use the brake cable and solder or braze a nipple on the end.  :)
