Had to change to reserve at 189 miles   is this somewhere near or can anyone shed any light on what could be going wrong bike has 37k on

I've read through this thread, and I'm having some difficulty believing what I'm seeing. The fuel warning light goes on on my '98 Steamer at 150 miles; but if I stop and refuel at that point, the tank still has ~2.5 US gallons in it. I've never had to go to reserve, as I generally stop for fuel before I get to 200 miles. My most recent trip (all pavement, about 650 miles of mixed highway and twisties) was last weekend, and I filled the tank four times.

What am I missing?

well spotted foothills. its my light that comes on at 150 too. very rarely let it run into the reserve so i just presumed thats what everyone else done. i really must learn to slow down and read things properly.
so as far as how many miles i get till then i have no idea.

I could be wrong?? You covered 650 mls,filled up 4 times,got about 2.5 galls still in tank? So 4 x 3galls = 12.  12 into 650 = 54 mpg??  (or there or there abouts?)

I get 9 miles per litre, so that is about 200miles to reserve, and 225 if she runs dry.
It\'s ok , this will only take 5 minutes.
