Just purchased a 2000 885i tiger to go in the stable with my other bikes (16 more to play with, yes I have a disease)

Anyways I am planning on doing a full service on the tiger before using it more.  When I removed the seats I found a little black box with a rotary switch.  Think there is 6-8 positions I think. I have a pic but cant upload at mo.

Any ideas as done a search and can't find what ur could be.

i do apologize for the cockup.  Been a busy month for me.

Not sure what the box is for as I have been waiting on parts to arrive so i can remove the tank and do the service (our mail services suck sometimes)  I have the CPC metal connectors to fit, valve tool to play with, diagnostic cable and tuneecu, silicone hose to replace any spliting ones) spark plugs, jaso oil (buy 5 gallon bulk drums)  Just waiting on  k&n air filter, oil filter

hers's the pics i mentioned.

where do the wires go?
Is it unattached?

It isn't stock, so it's something the PO has added. Looks like it goes towards the battery, only thing I can think off is maybe some aftermarket heated grips.
Black 885i Tiger UK based
Orange 955i Tiger Canadian based
Norton 961S never got it, tired of waiting

fattyjr

it's got heated grips fitted, but I have already traced the wires and eliminated that thought.

I am going to pull the tank later today to install the metal CPC connectors so will have a further look.

I had a thought it might me a speedo adjuster, but i thought they were din switched adjusted.

will come back with more pics later

Some kind of fuel mod? although I'm normally up to speed on such and I've never seen anything like that, what happens when you ajust it?

JayDub

If you turn it when the indicators are flashing, does the flash rate change? - my car has something similar in appearance which is....  an adjustable flasher relay! :nod
Either that or its to adjust the 'knock' sensitivity of the alarm

Sin_Tiger

I've seen something similar used with one of these (there are many) air/fuel modifiers. Not saying it is but just be wary of messing with it until you've traced the cables.
I used to have long hair, took acid and went to hip joints. Now I long for hair, take antacid and need a new hip joint
