tiger with idle issues.

Been playing with my 855i tiger.

not sure what my issue is (and trying to sort out an android tablet to work with tuneecu) but bike will start up no problem, but won't idle cleanly.

Thought fuel may be issue as bike has been stood while I been working so put some fresh go go juice in her and it helped a little.  I had already pulled the throttle bodies, replaced gasket and then balanced them.  Had a iffy IACV so replaced it with a known good one (proven by watching it move with tank lifted) I can't really think of anything else off top of my head apart from trying a tps replace and reset as well as a crank shaft sensor not reading right.

Any ideas as apart from idle issue, bike is great to ride inbetween my other triumphs

Mine was split vac pipes but I guess you've been there. If your using the Triumph ribbed ones ditch them for silicone vac pipe easier to see if they're knackered.

good luck

Assuming your 885 has an O2 sensor so do the adaptation, that resets the trims.  You might not need any more than that.

If it hasn't an O2 sensor do the 12 minute tune.

got some time off work today.

done a complete wipe and reinstall on my laptop and got tune ecu to work with windows 10.  Pulled map off bike and got the aftermarket silencer tune 10126

Just flashed in 10124 map with production silencer on to ecm.

Started bike and it went to idle at 2000 rpm and over 5 mins, slowed it's self down as expected.

Then bike began to struggle to idle.

Bit of a werid one as I rode it to work the other day and it was fine then rode it home onto yard and it idled ok for a min then struggled.

I have ordered a new tps, crank sensor, air temp sensor to install.  Idle issues are ones of IACV, IACV tubes, TB gasket.  TPS is hesitation or misfire on acceleration, or similar to erratic running at around 3,000rpm.  Cranks sensor is runs when cold, doesn't run when hot.  U/S air temp sensor (never had one of these) would cause overfuelling as the ECU would see lower than actual air temp and thus assume more O2 available than their is.  I think you may have spent unnecessarily....

one thing that stuck out on tune ecu is one temp showed 20c and other showed 40c i think

One temp is for air the other coolant so 20 and 40 is entirely possible.

See my comments in red.

Did you do an "Adaptation"????

For the price I paid for the tiger, I can afford to replace them so it's not a major issue.

As far as I can see, I can't see an O2 sensor unless it's buried under the bike.  I do have 2 connectors under the throttle body which (from other research) is maybe the cali purge tank connector and the other is the 02 sensor plug (which may not be used).

As I mentioned, I have replaced the idle valve with a known good one (also ran the bike with tank off and airfilter removed to verify movement)  All idle pipes/hoses replaced with high temp silicone, even barometric hose to the ecm has been replaced.  Throttle bodies removed, cleaned and throttle body gasket replaced.

I have had issues with crank sensors on cars etc with idle issues so that's what suggested i replace it.  Took me a few days to decide to buy one as they are £70.

I have tried to do a TPS reset (can't see adaption) but it still shows " greyed out" even when run for a 10-15 mins.

You don't need a TPS reset until after you change the sensor.  To change it you have to remove the TBs so at least you'll be changing the gasket at the same time.

The adaptation is in the "How Tos"

I changed the sensors and not sure which one helped, but they helped.  I did test the crank sensor with my multimeter and it was just out of spec.

I finally got tuneecu to work and made sure i had correct tuen installed.  Seemed to want to idle at 750 so i tickled the idle trim and iacv setting and raised idle to 1500 while i get some miles on the bike.

The crank sensor can test out ok with a multimeter but still not work.  You really need an oscilloscope to test it properly.  There is a post and maybe some pics when I did mine.  The oscilloscope picture showed the pulses coming from the sensor with the engine running, but occasionally a pulse would be missing or there would be some electrical noise blanking the pulse.

The multimeter I used was a Cheap Snap on Modis scanner/scope.  :icon_lol:

Ah,,  so what did it show?

EDIT:  I just looked up Cheap Snap On Modis scanner    :bug_eye  "Cheap" they aren't   :ImaPoser

never seen the terms "cheap" and "snap on" in the same sentence without a "not".

Only thing i get cheap from the snap on dealer is insults and the odd sticker for my wall.  :ImaPoser

Well back to the tiger,  I decided to plug in tuneecu to the bike tonight and I can't get the B**CH to connect.  Rebooted laptop, put it into flight mode so it kills bluetooth and wifi in one click, plugged in the cable and it came up in tuneecu as com 3 and farty cable (you know what I mean)

plug into bike, red light on, ignition on, click connect and unable to connect.  Tried 4 times and nothing.  just keeps coming up unable to connect to ecu.

Bloody thing :BangHead

Check your battery voltage. If necessary, put a charger on it.
