And four other new models. They still seem to be under the impression the Tiger is about to morph into a Multistrada kind of thing, 17'' front wheel etc. I sincerely hope not, this is of absolutely zero interest to me as a potential replacement. Reckon I 'll be keeping the old girl a bit longer.

The marketing people at Triumph get shrewder by the day,they'll sell boat loads of e'm,Greg you might want an offroader but Triumph on their own admitance will tell the Tiger isn't an offroader,and the market for that kind of thing is tiny,and it's all about shifting units.



Triumph have been cute enough to set up in the opposite camp to BM,what i do find funny a couple of weeks ago in the comic it was just a fuzzy picture and little else,not so fuzzy picture this week and more detail!!!,the chances are i might not buy one either!!!,haveing changed brakes,suspension and just about to change wheels for the third time!!,but what is it they say?? never say never!!.

I can understand Triumph wanting to tap into niche markets, after all that's their specialist subject as a comparatively small volume manufacturer. What I do find difficult to believe is they would dump the Tiger as a touring machine, but then again they dumped the Trophy. I just hope these new models turn out to be "variations" of the present Tiger and pray we still have an upright tourer with leaky luggage an'all!

As much as I adore my 955i, seeing the trend of the newer Tigers away from "adventure" touring my next bike most likely will not be a Triumph.  I spend literally thousands of miles fully loaded touring on unpaved back roads.  I need a bike that is rugged, yet comfortable.  I have taken my 955 places that it really had no business being, yet, it did it without complaint.



If I was to be in the market for a Tiger replacement in the next year or so, it would probably be the new version of the KTM Adventure.  They are bumping the displacement to 990 and putting fuel injection on it.  I would need to instantly put a Corbin, or other seat on it, but I could make it work.

Just because Triumph are saying supermoto,why should it affect it's touring capabilities???,my Tiger has used Super moto wheels for that last four years,it's been every where from the Polish boarder to southern Italy,Spain,Portugal,and the South of France more times than i can remember,with no end of 7/8/9 hundred miles days,i've found it steers better and sticks to the road like glue,with decent rubber instead of those mickey mouse trail tyres that go belly up when you've been rideing hard for an hour.

With the advent of the 1200 BMW GS and now the new fuel injected 990 KTM Adventure, Triumph must upgrade the Tiger.

Whatever it is, I hope they use the 1050 cc engine.  And from a strategic point of view that displacment puts them right where they like to be.

I chose the perfect bike, thank you.  At the time (KTM was just releasing), there was no other bike out there besides the GS that could ride 1000 miles of pavement, then do 4 days of an off road adventure, jump back on the freeway and ride 1000+ miles home in comfort.



The KTM is much better when the pavement ends, but is not quite comfortable enough on the pavement for those long hauls, at least for me.  My hopes is that the new bigger KTM motor plus fuel injection, smooths out the street charaistics a bit.  Then it will be a winner!



The newer Tigers, starting with the '06 have given up just too much of the dirt abilities for me.  Cast wheels, less travel in the suspension, etc.  Now I am not talking about single track "dirt bike" trails, but I will spend days on end wandering the unpaved backroads of the western US.

The market for off roaders is tiny?  So you're saying a lot more Tigers get sold than GSs?  Right.  Maybe be over there.

I've never seen a single super-moto bike on the street here in the Northeast US.  Ever.  Hope it's a craze that never gets here...

some info needed about a new Tiger?

A british bike like the one shown on the pic in another thread was seen on a racetrac in Germany (120hp 1050ccm but with 19/17"tyres) - but I thinks it will come with 17/17.

But a new tiger with the smaller 675engingine seems to be a rumor...



A bike with more offroad capability isnt planed at the time.

Not true here in B'ham. AL  I've seen GS's sit for quit a while on the showroom floor before being sold. Theyv'e had a HP2 for so long they

are about to change the decals on it an make it an HP3.    :smt039



The Tigers here are fewer and farther between and I think it makes it a lot more unique as compared to the GS. I have owned  the GS and the Tiger. I liked/loved them both. For the money the Tiger is far and away the better deal.

You aren't kidding dude...I got sucked in by the mighty BMW marketing machine 100%.  I wasn't experienced enough to know just how much skill it takes to ride a 530lb bike off road...but the guys in the pictures do it!?!?   :roll:



I totally agree that the vast majority of people don't use their GSs and big traillies the way I used/use mine.  But I do think that a lot of people buy them for the same reason I bought mine - getting older, families, responsibilities....yet craving some sort of adventure.  So they see a bike with knobs, skid plates, etc, and see the ads of the bike being ridden in all sorts of gnarly terrain and buy into it.



Just like ads of sportscars being pushed to their limits...or Jeeps out in the woods driving through rivers...most people will never use them that way, but the companies still market them that way to sell them.



Has Triumph ever had an ad campaign or anything to push the Tiger??

Yeah, that's me. When I asked the boys at the dealer how many they sell in a year, they told me about a dozen.  I bought their last 05 last week. It has been the only one there since at least September. I don't think they moved 11 bikes in 9 months and then struggled to sell 1 bike in 4 months.  :smt017   I have NEVER seen one on the road around here.

By the way, for what it's worth he also said a completely new Tiger will be out for 07.  Says bags will be optional, new motor, all new looks, more street worthy, and should be a fair amount more $$. Kinda does sound like a Multistrada.

... but then again, they are basing this on a rather murky photo... yes it's a traily type bike with 17" wheels (that's all you can tell), but at least the pics of the other 4 new Triumphs are a lot clearer... I wouldn't be surprised if it used the new 675 motor. Triumph aren't daft, they know that most Tiger users are more into the Touring role... surely a trendy "supermoto" version would at least be "in adition to" rather than replacing...



I'll scan the full double page spread tomorrow and post a link to it, then you guys who haven't seen it can decide for yourselves...
