... and of course you failed to mention HOW you abolished slavery...
your government actually bought those slaves from their owners then freed them. Perhaps we should have done the same... but that probably would have only been a temporary solution.

Aye it did.... But don't judge us too harshly:
We were a tad busy runnin' the Red Coats out first....
we call it the Revolutionary War.  

Then of course the War of 1812 .. to 1815 where we once again were defending our homeland against the Red Coats .  Where the first USS
Enterprise made a name for itself. (I was priviledged to be aboard the Big E aircraft carrier in the mid-60's)

In 1817  the 70 years Indian Wars scarred our nation as the country was being settled. Today the remnants are a grim reminder of a defeated culture.

Then the Mexican War in the mid-1840's.... where the land we call Texas was the catalyst for war. And where California & Arizona may be the catalyst for another.

And then the Civil War.... where our nation changed forever and it took generations of commerce and industry to heal the scars.
 
Regardless of the critics... our nation IS the LAST GREAT HOPE. All nations look to us for leadership and aid. We always oblige.

Ummmmm, it was a really good movie and I would not like to see this moved to rivalry between countries.  I'm a proud American but have many, many friends in other countries.  For that matter I have a Scotsman as a house guest tomorrow.  We're good friends and rarely speak politics.  Why ruin a good friendship?  

The awful things that men do to other men has little to do with our countries but with mankind.  Let's not go there.....it was a good movie.... :shock:

simply to state that WHAT was done is usually a combination of WHY and HOW it was done... then look at the results and make a determination as to what was right or wrong.

It may be a GREAT movie... but that's not the point. Movies are a form of entertainment whereas one point of view is the theme. It is usually embellished to support that position.... right or wrong.

The issue was about how 'it took the USA another 100 years to abolish slavery' ... after the Brits. Which may be true.. but our nation had other things to do in building and defending a new country... that's all. I think the comment was uncalled for.. and gave my reasons.
