Engine Management Light

While riding home today the Engine Management Malfunction light came on.  According to the manual my bike would have switched to "Limp Home Mode".  I stopped the bike and checked it out and found nothing wrong.  It ran fine as usual.  The only thing that I could trace it back to was that I'd filled up the tank a few miles previously.

Any suggestions anyone?  It seems to run fine.....

Is the battery low at all?
The ECU will only go to Limp Home if the fault is severe enough to justify it.
They will come on if the bike is started with a weak battery, and will go out once charged and started 5-10 times.
This is the most common reason for the ECU Light to be on.

No, the battery is fine.  I keep it on a Smart Charger every day.  The light came on while at a stop light.  The RPMs dropped, the light came on and I pulled off the road and checked everything.  I can't find anything wrong and the bike has been running fine but I'm hesitant to ride it until I find the problem or fault.

It'll be worth 2 mins to pop it into a dealer, they can then plug ti up and tell you what sensor/fault is bringing it up.

Mac Tools also do a OBD diagnostic tool, which can bring the fault code up, and can then be cross referenced with the manual to show what that code relates to. They only cost about £40 GBP.
This tool fits Triumph M/Cycles, and most cars.

Unfortunately it's a lot more than two minutes for me and time is tight but perhaps that is what I need to do. I was going to call the dealer today to see if I can get any info.
I've been planning on buying some diagnostic tools for this bike and I'd like to MAP it myself as well but I do not have these yet.  Do you have a link to the Mac Tool you are referring to?

After three heat cycles the light resets, unless the fault is still happening. I'd ride it a few times to see if it goes away first.

Excellent.  That's good info.  What is considered to be a "Heat cycle"?

A heat cycle is to let it warm up till the fan comes on, then completely cool down. In theory, it doesn't need to get quite that warm, but that's the easiest way.

I've only been able to get the fan to kick in once on this bike.  She runs cooool!  But I'm a determined man, I'll heat her up.

You don't need to get it up to "fan" temperature. Just normal riding temp will do. Also, it doesn't seem to need to cool right down either. My lamp went off after just one ride where I stopped for 20 minutes a couple of times.
What puzzles me is that it came on without you doing anything except filling up. The only times I've had it come on is when I've disconnected the battery.

I tried re-starting it three times yesterday giving it a chance to cool down and once again this morning before I left for work and it was still on so I too my DR into work instead.  I'm still hoping to call the dealer some time today to see if I can get an answer other than you better bring it in.

Well if something has gone wrong, that's the only solution.

I've been clicking the heels of my ruby slippers and throwing salt over my shoulder but nothing yet.....

I agree that it's most likely the only solution but it seems to be running fine....finding time to get it to the dealer is a bit of a problem at the moment so I'm just making sure there aren't any other potential solutions before hand.  There has been good advice in this thread.  Thanks everyone.

On some cars you can re set the ECU by disconnecting the battery, leaving it a minute or so and then re connecting it. Does this work on Tigers?
