Memorial Day...

There are always reminders of what Memorial Day is all about....

but going back to the Continental Army .... as the Army had suffered humiliating defeats in battle in the wilderness of Pennsylvania, General Washington knew that he must find refuge for his army so they may survive the winter and prepare for new fighting the coming spring.

The Continental Congress would NOT appropriate monies for food, clothing, or shelter for this Army and General Washington was fearful that pneumonia, disease, starvation, the cold, and desertion would leave him
without an army to continue the campaign.

But in their march through the wilderness Washington could not help but notice 'blood-in-the-snow' from the footprints of his shoeless soldiers who had wrapped their feet in rags and continued the march leading to Valley Forge.

From the sacrafice of that Grand Continental Army thru today's sacrafices by soldiers around the world....

make Memorial Day a day to remember and and a day to enjoy ...
