Two months ago I ordered a set of Crash Bars from Ma's Cycles. Here it is a week before I leave and they finally admit they will not ship and they do not know when they will...

Talk about upset... grrrrrrrrrr... I am so pissed off it has takne a bit to calm down enough to figure out what to do...

I need a set of bars.. I just CAN NOT leave on a fully loaded tiger without them.

Who do you know that actually HAS crash bars IN STOCK, that can ship TODAY??!?!?

they do in Seattle... $100 more than the Ma's I had budgeted for and then Airfreight to get them here in time.... I just talked to Ian there, he was very helpful and even went out to touch them in the warehouse to make sure they are there... alas no discounts to be had or nor do they wish to support the KIVA effort in any way... to bad... would be good publicity for them...

I have until tomorrow to get them shipped from them in time, so I will continue to look and see what I can find
thanks for responding

Sorry..
The only way Baxter would be out is if their source ( Ma's) didn't have any.
I have a set of Ma's... they do the job.

If you are simply going on a road trip.... just go ahead. If you are going forest trails or off road ... you'd need bars... if not... don't sweat it. But, you could pick a place  you can be on a certain date.... and have a set waiting for you. They are easy to put on...  1 hour. ( Borrow a dealer's torque wrench to snug it up).

If you will be in the Midwest... stop in at Ma's in Fargo.... wooops... maybe not ... the river will still be up! HAve them sent somewhere!
But you should tell Bob Nysveen your experience and they could have saved you alot of grief and angst.

I cant say anything good about Ma's myself, I tried to get a set of bars and the kept telling me they would call back with a price for shipping etc,,,never got one call back even though I called on 3 separate occasions. Its obvious to me they dont need my money, really bad customer service in my opinion.

I bought a set from Thunderbike. At the same rough cost as a set from Touratech. Frankly I guess I am happy I am getting the Thunderbike set... I had shied away due to the cost, but they are the better product I think. The TT set were $338 plus shipping of around $30.. I am paying $376 for the TT bars.... they may be here by Sat... but in all likelihood it'll be Monday....

now I am having a nice bourbon manhatten  with extra cherries.

Hey JasonS !! there`s nothin worse than someone lettin ya down at near the last minute, eh !! good to hear you`ve got a set on the way. i checked out the Thunderbike bars a while ago but the £££ + p&p put me off, then i remembered you could download the fitting instructions, could save you a bit of time bein prepaired before they arrive but rechecked the site and i can`t get it to work......

for whatever reason the instructions are not on the website anymore. I have a word doc with the instructions, as they sent me, posted below.

I was lucky to get a dusty pair that was buried out back somewhere.. I will admit to doing some serious groveling and perhaps my sad story of woe caused the rep to dig around... it may have been a set off of a rental for all I know..

I just wanted to give a little praise for my Touratech crash bars. I have dropped my bike two times in the last two weeks and the bars have done their job fantastically. The first time I lost control riding through a patch of snow on a dirt road and the bike fell onto its left side at 22 mph. It hit hard enough to cause the windscreen to sheer its plastic bolts and fall off. Not a scratch to the tank or anything else except the shift lever was bent. The second drop was a crawl speed on a down hill dirt road with the front tire in a rut that caused the bike to drop on its right side. I had both hard bags on plus a duffle bag tied to the rear seat. Again not a scratch anywhere, not even the hard bags. I couldn't be more pleased with the crash bars.

The TB Bars showed up On Monday and I got them on Tuesday. Initial fitting indicate issues, so on Thursday I went to a buddies, where we dug in and determined that metal had to be removed to allow the base of each set to clear the engine housing protrusions on the bottom of the case. That done, we could at least get the bottom two mounting points where they needed to be. Yet we found that in the best case, the bars were 1/2" to short to fit the 1050 engine case of the 2006 955i engine. I struck off for a local fab shop where we cut the bars in two, fabbed up some sched 80 sleeves, and headed back to buddies house... We dry fitted the bars and tack welded them up, removed them and completed the welding. They were primed and ready yesterday, but I put off the install for today.

I'll post pics at some point.
