I had a long weekend so I decided to take a little ride.  I only had a $100 budget so I limited my trip to 3 days and camped.

So here's a few pics from my 3-day, 1000 mile $100 trip.

I left from Steamboat Springs and traveled south to Glenwood Springs, then over McClure pass to Hotchkiss.  I tuned off and followed the Black Canyon to Cimaron (near Montrose) where I spent the first night.  The next morning, I went south through Ridgeway, Ouray, and Silverton to Durango.  I then turned west to continue on the San Juan Skyway and looped back over Lizard Head pass to near Telluride.  I headed northwest to Sawpit then west to Naturita.  Then west to Moab and up the Colorado River to find another camp spot.  It rained from Delores to Moab, so very few pics of Lizard Head.  The third day I took a leisurely ride back to Steamboat and hit the Debeque cut-off at the beginning of the Grand Junction canyon.  I backtracked up the Colorado River Road just for fun.

A nice trip for under a hundred bucks.[/img]

Great country!! Gotta love getting to see the things in our area on the cheap, lots of folks spending thousands to come and see sights we get to see almost everyday.

thanks,

Great ride, Awesome pictures, on my kind of budget.

When I saw picture of Bear Creek Trailhead 500 ft.  That brought back memories.  The best spur of the moment hike I have ever taken.  It goes up to an old abandoned mine.

Then when I saw the booming metropolis of Burns, CO.  That was a throw back also.  I elk hiked (Its elk hunting when you dont get anything but a good hike) up from Burns a couple years ago.  Great road, endless camping.

Cant wait to get back,  this ride report only made the insanity worse  :?

I used to have long hair, took acid and went to hip joints. Now I long for hair, take antacid and need a new hip joint

Thanks for the positive replies everyone.

Yeah, I thought the half-track was funny as well.  I went to the avalanche school in Silverton several years ago.  We went up onto Red Mountain to study snow conditions and practice avalanche rescue.  I love going to the San Juans.  It makes me feel like I'm in British Columbia, but without the expense of getting there.

It rained a lot on the trip so I didn't get many pics from Lizard Head Pass.

I gotta say, I just love the Tiger.  The more I ride it the more I love it.  It is just a fantastic adventure touring bike.  Even the old 885 is plenty of bike for where I go.  Some day I'll upgrade, but no time soon.

thanks,

I'll probably head out to explore more of beautiful Utah this fall and winter.  My wife and I love heading to the UT desert.  Best part is that it's close and inexpensive.  I love going to Moab, but the town itself is really expensive.  I want to make it down to Bryce and Zion.

My wife volunteers at Best Friends animal sanctuary every year, so that is a perfect opportunity for a riding trip.

The sky is so blue in some of the pictures. Just amazing.

The missus wants a half track now too.  Think it's something to do with the one-up-man-ship on the SUV run to school.
Is it really an adventure bike if its wheels never see dirt?
