When we moved from BC to Massachusetts 13 years ago we took some of the same route.  Only went up the Icefield Parkway far enough to do some backpacking for a few days.  Waterton/Glacier was one of our favorite stops.

Haven't been back yet, though I'm thinking it would be a good trip now from New Mexico.
