paint matching

I just got a great deal on some hardbags for my 99 tiger.
The problem is the bags I bought are orange, and I need to have them painted to match my 99 lighning yellow tiger. I thought this was a easy fix,
but the more I looked into this the harder it is. It seems that the triumph color is what they call a tri-coler. not so easy to match,and was quoted about 230.00 for a pint. No promise that the color will even be good match. Has anyboby had to match this color before? Does anybody have a paint code that is a good math?

Orange?!  Are they in good shape?  Especially the left side case?  If so I'd love to contribute your goal by trading lids + some cash if you are going to paint them!  (I have a damaged Lucifer Orange left side lid, plus 2 that just have scuffs on them, but through the base coat).

I do see yellow cases or lids up for sale now and then.  You might be better off selling the orange ones and waiting for a set of yellow to come around.  If they are in stellar shape you could probably get $300 for them.  Scratch up a bit, $200.

The lighting yellow can be purchased.   Triumph's codes are:
LIGHTNING YELLOW     IVC     L2590     T3120300-FC (touch up paint part number... FC being the color code for Lightning Yellow)

You are in the same boat us Lucifer Orange owners are in.

The paint is made by Standox (now owned by Dupont)  It's a 3 stage paint, with a base, pearl, and clear.  It's expensive paint.  A friendly painter will likely charge around $400 to paint both lids if they have a Standox supplier.

Special Search (next arrow) Motorcycle (next arrow) Triumph (next arrow) type "FC" in the paint code box then click next arrow for for a list of the stages.

Select a stage, and the quantity at the bottom, then click next for the mixing codes you'll need to take to the paint shop.  You'll need to do this for both the pearl and base.

While you're on the site you'll need to use the Standox page to find a dealer in your area.   Standox dealers can be sparse.

Hey EB thanks for the info on paint codes.
Hopefully the paint is'nt too expensive.
I'm not sure about the trade, but I will think about it.
I called dealer about buying just the lid,I think they quoted me 260.00 plus tax. No yellow or orange. Just silver, black, and one other color maybe green.

EB  My left side pannier is in good condition,But not perfect,some small scratches.

If memory serves, the base is about $45 a pint, and the pearl is about $70 a pint.  It takes a bit more paint when painting 3 stage because you match the pearl to the rest of the bike, so it takes several test sprays.  I would think a pint of each would be enough to paint both lids but it will depend on your painter and his experience.  The painter I tried to use wanted me to buy a quart of each to spray a fairing and one lid, plus all the 2k primer, sealer, clear, misc, and labor.  Was going to be about $400.

I said forget it... and was going to just spend the extra couple hundred and buy all new parts already painted at the factory.  Then ran into the same problem you found... none of the luggage is being made anymore, and the yellow and orange are no longer stocked.

What condition are your Lucifer Orange lids in?  Please don't start scuffing or prepping them before letting me make you an offer :)

Hey EB,
The left lid is in very good condition. Very light scatches.
The right is good condition, but has one deep scratch about 3/4 inch long.
It has more scratches than left bag.The black bottom has some scratches also. One of the inside straps is broke. the plastic needs to be epoxy back to lid.
You can see them on ADVrider, remember where the guy with orange bags for sale. You asked him about his fairing to trade.
I have been looking for long time to find bags,and finally found these.
I am still thinking about it.

The cases I bought used are scratched up, but structurally intact.  All of the hinge mounts and strap mounts / kits are in real good condition.

Would you be willing to trade your lids for mine?  I don't really need my secondary set to be in very good condition, as I think I'm going to rino-line them.  I saw another Lightning Yellow Girly that had them done that way and I thought it looked really good.  (For the life of me I can't seem to find the picture)

As I offered the original owner of your panniers, I'll cover shipping each way for the trade.
