Any body have a master link go bad ( Thunk, Thunk, Thunk)?
And what size is the chain for a 98, seems to be the only thing giving problems out of all the links but how does one know when your chain is about to give up the ghost?

Sprokets seem to be in good shape no hooking on the rear but can't see the front.

Last bike I had with chain was an RM 400 back in the 70's.

One other thing was going to replace my tires with Anakees can't find R's!
only HR's such as Front 110/80HR-19 (59H) and rear 140/80HR-17 (69H)
Will this cause a problem, found both for $221.00 Free shipping. (http://www.jakewilson.com/cart.do)

The 'H' is the speed rating of the tire while the 'R' simply means radial.

the 59H in the designation is the load rating
59H = 536 pounds at a max speed of 130 mph
69H=  716 pounds at a speed of 130mph

interestingly the h speed rated tires are tested at 210 mph but they get a max speed rating of 130

charts that explain all the mystery of tire designations

guaranteed the front sprocket is junk if you are replacing the chain .
I have never had one yet that outlived a chain the rear sprocket you can sometimes get away with using over again .
But if you are replacing the chain you should really do both sprockets new also so the fit of the links on the chain match the sprockets . New is nice and smooth .

The chain is a 530 o-ring or x ring chain at 114 links
the sprockets are 18 tooth front and 48 tooth rear

motorcycle superstore http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/
has killer prices on front sprockets and has a supersprox rear that is awesome for 89 bucks
they also have a decent chain with gold sideplates
you can get all three for 208 bucks  with free shipping

the url's for the sprockets will show as 98 Triumph Trophy parts but they are the same parts the tigger uses

chain a black side plate one is 84 bucks and you can get it the right length at 114 ...the gold side plated one  costs a litte more and only comes in 120 link so you will need a chain breaker ....and either chain is going to require a rivet tool for the master link .

Thanks Mustang your top notch!! I can get the whole bundle tires and all $418.00, Most likely need the cover gasket and new oil and I just changed it two weeks ago, won't need a filter!! :x

How good are the DID roller chains $53.00?

ramseybella

I will be waiting longer on the side cover gasket than all the other stuff!!

Waiting on the shifter bearing and seal as well..

you can actually re use the paper gasket if you don't tear it or just use silicone or hylomar if you have it
and if your shaft seal isn't leaking (that just sounds wrong) there is no need to replace the bearing or seal

It's the clutch pushrod seal that will usually leak and cause problems

Is there anything yo dont know about Tigers?
Don't ever sell a Steamer !Steamers Rule!"

My local Triumph dealer is such a poof. Ya know I swear that is why he got the job, because apart from the fact they have the nearest Triumph franchise for 100 miles in any direction, their main business is bloomin scooters in every queer colour under the sun and the male punters that crowd the sales desk arrive in sodding pairs smelling of Gucci for men eau de colon! Now I'm not homophobic as a rule, but when I ask for an endless chain and sprocket set I expect not to see a chain that has two ends and a soft link with a copper rivet head when I have got home popped the engine half out and removed the swing arm. Especially when it is a supposedly genuine Triumph part and been assured endlessly that even though I will be paying hopelessly over the odds I will be getting an endless chain of superior quality and will save myself 50 quid on a cheap and useless chink knockoff chain riveter or 160 quid for a gen-U-swine DID tool that the chinks knocked off and botched anyway.
I am puffed to bursting point with indignant righteous and pontificating frustration. So please somebody tell me I haven't just been shafted by my dealer and indeed a DID plain jane silver 50VM with a soft link will see me ride happily into the sunset with ne'er a care, provided of course I grab my ankles in his poofs presense for a second time as he riffles through my wallet to the tune of a cheap chink rivet cum breaker.

Please excuse me, I ran out of half bricks to chew and my keyboard is now taking the brunt of my anger.

Mustang

the rivet link will be fine
it's what I always use and have thousands and thousands of miles on the three tiggers with no problems
like almost 200,000 miles on rivet link chains

I used to have long hair, took acid and went to hip joints. Now I long for hair, take antacid and need a new hip joint

BruKen

No thanks Sin :D but thanks for the offer. Sorry if I offended anyone here, but after dropping the rear of the angine and removing the swing arm last night I was apoplectic when I removed the brown rapping paper and was confronted by the master link packet which had the following words....Warning - SOFTLINK- this chain will not be as strong as a endless chain or a rivet chain -or words to that affect.

Hang on... Here... I read it and wept...

BruKen

Uhmmmm this is not my day, I think I broke the forum. Oops. Soz, mobile phone and Bolt browser.
