Hi All, Is it possible to swap your lock, or re-key the ignition etc to match your existing key?.

Thanks

Rob

Mustang

you can buy a new set that has matching keys for ignition and seat lock ...but they are expensive and the ignition lock is a real bugger to swap out .

I'm glad you said that because I never figured a way to get those shear bolts out without using excessive force (I.e. A really big hammer). In the end it took hours and hours of patience for me to slowly pick the rust out of YAPI's tumblers so the key would turn again.

I was think more of was it possible to swap the barrels, but it sounds like a no.............................bugger

Thanks

Rob

I`m sort of looking into this myself.

I`m wondering if the early Trophy/Trident/Daytona etc wiring is the same so we could use a lockset from one of those?

According to Triumph part numbers, a 94 Tiger shares the same ignition switch as all the following, so perhaps a better alternative would be to buy a complete lockset from a broken bike.

I haven't looked closely at the locks, but any locksmith deserving of the name should be able to rekey one to the other, or re key them both to a new key.  If the ignition is hard to remove, have them rekey the seat lock to match.

And (at least here) it's cheaper than you think.  My local lady will do it for $10 per lock.

EDIT: Also, if you don't have a key for the ignition, have them cut a new key from impression, that's usually even cheaper.
