The threads I have been reading refer to the sprag clutch weakness. How can I tell if my sprag clutch has been upgraded or fixed?

Mustang

to physically look at a failed one you will see absolutely no difference to a good one

at some point the upgraded sprags got more teeth on the gear , after engine #109315 they got the new sprag which has 53 teeth the older ones had 51 teeth

If your engine #is below 109315 and you pull your starter motor out and it has 13 teeth you have the new style sprag clutch .

Which BTW can also fail too
Best to always keep a good battery in the bike and never try to keep starting it once the battery starts to wear down .

Excellent - many thanks. I'll add it my pile of notes
