Poll
Question:
Which month should the meet be held?
Option 1: May
votes: 3
Option 2: June
votes: 2
Option 3: July
votes: 15
Option 4: August
votes: 1
Option 5: 1st weekend
votes: 2
Option 6: 2nd weekend
votes: 3
Option 7: 3rd weekend
votes: 7
Option 8: 4th weekend
votes: 4
I'm suggesting that we pick a month for all subsequent meet ups to be held, maybe even the weekend. This way everyone knows to keep that date clear well in advance. I'm only suggesting this because as the last 2 meets have been in July I thought every meet was going to be July and this caused lots of confusion with my poll and I struggled to get a definite date. Also all the meets (3) have been the 3rd weekend of July. I'm voting July and the 3rd weekend. I've set the options to allow everyone 2 votes, 1 for the month and 1 for the weekend so don't waste them.
Like many others, my plans will change and a meet up is not something I will prioritise over say, working or family plans e.t.c. Hence it being easier to just decide nearer the time.
But I see where you're coming from so I've made a choice :D
Good idea but this time I'm going to wait tool it's confirmed before blocking my leave and flights.
This poll has got buried. I didn't see it and started a new thread. http://www.tigertriple.com/forum/index.php/topic,12281.msg89937.html#new
Admin, could you make this poll a sticky please like we had last year and the year before and nuke my thread? And make its title something like the previous years polls. Ta.

:thumbsup +1 On that! Are there any suggestions for this year's venue yet or are we choosing a date first?
Hi all.Just to save confusion this poll was to decide the month and date of every meet from now and not just this years meet. This way every one knows year in and year out which date to try and keep clear and then we don't have to spend 2 months and 5 pages of chat deciding a date.14 people have voted so far and at a guess those that have voted are the poeple that have been to a meet or would like to come to one so by popular demand and if still o.k. with everyone the meets our to be the :-
3rd weekend July
The crap above sounds like i'm trying to be the boss of the meets which is not my intention I'm just tryimg to make the arranging of the meets easyier.

Have we even decided a county yet. I know Norfolk was mention'd last year but is that set in stone?Last year lads from Scotland were asking about going up there which I'm ok with. Too be right we've done down south once, around the middle twice so I suppose it is there turn. It's just a long way for you southerners.

Sounds good to me! Better get me passport in order! :thumbsup
Norfolk was mentioned last year.
Just a suggestion to start things off, this place has been recommended to me by the locals,

Personally I don't mind the ride anywhere, Singapore to UK is the bigger challenge, the dates are the most important thing for me :XXsunsmile

Like the look of this and the surroundings.
I don't mind a foray into Scotland, mainly because I can't see Norfolk matching last year's run out in Yorkshire. And because I live in Norfolk. And I organised the first meet. And I like Scotland. :hat10
Edit: Having said that, I don't get back from Pembrey till Thursday before the 3rd w'end so no way will I make Scotland on the Friday, I'll be unpacking the motorhome :doubt
Its going to be hard to match last years roads.
Any more suggestions in mind from anyone?

+2 on that...dont mind where I go but if Norfolk can we have Fish n Chips at Cromer.
I'd second that, although the chips are good in Wells too. If there are no strong wants for somewhere else in a couple of weeks, I'll have a look at what we might do in Norfolk, although my feeling is that it'll be a nice quiet bimble to the coast then along the coast rather than a thrash out.
Good roads from Larling to Cromer, through Watton up to Dereham, then back roads up through Guist to Holt.
Do part of that in my truck when i`m on that route :thumbsup
Can`t explore most of the roads out there as i`m not allowed through the weight limits in my 44 tonner!
Sure we could come up with something.
Just an idea,
Having an interest in aviation, there are many de-commissioned airfields in Norfolk. Perhaps a riding route to take some of these in.
And then if someone were to bring some timing lamps!!!!
Norfolk may be a bit dryer than Scotland though.
Just a thought.
:thumbsup
RF9 - B1110? One of my local favourites. Ovington bends just north of Watton are brilliant, could just spend the day playing there. If anyone fancies a taste, go to Google Earth or Google maps and search Watton, Norfolk. Look to the north on the A1075 from the juction with Ovington Road for the next 0.75 miles, go to street view and fill yer boots.
Edit: I've just done that and it's way twistier than it looks on Google.
MG - good idea. I'll have a think.

Yup, but reckon the USA military wouldn`t take kindly to us riding the Tigers on the runway!

Yup, the B1110 is a decent bit of road, just have to watch out for suicidal deer and stags, had one jump out in front of the lorry a while back.

I thought they'd left and gone home.
No mate, still here, there`s also Lakenheath in the area, that`s also still up and running.
They both hold some very good airshows if you`re into that sort of thing.
I often see the big bombers flying when i`m out that way.
A few years ago, i was delivering agregate for the new runways at Mildenhall, got a guided tour of the place, it`s like a little piece of America inside.
Perhaps you were thinking of Alconbury?
That closed down a few years ago.
I`ve checked Snettertons calendar, as it`s just up the road from Larling site, BSB is 5/7th July, so shouldn`t be a problem with overbooking.
Before we get into this too far, any other suggestions from anyone about location before going any further with this place?
I've just received the years events of one of my local bike clubs (Essex Norton Owners Club) and they're holding there Camping/BBQ weekend in North Essex this same weekend.
I was hoping to join this meet but now its going to be difficult to be in two places at once (on two different bikes too). Maybe I could run up to Norfolk early Saturday morning to meet you all for the days run. (I'll be camping about 60 miles away in Essex). I'll have to wait to see what you plan to do.
Just by coincidence I'll be riding through Watton (near Larling) this Saturday visiting old friends in Dereham. This weekend I'll be in Suffolk attending the Bury St Edmonds Mad Cow rally on my old 1951 rigid Norton and plan to ride up into Norfolk on Saturday. I'll certainly miss the heated grips and comfort of my Tiger, also hope it doesn't snow any more.
Ok, plans are shaping up, before we go firm are there ANY objections?
Assuming not and if RF9 agrees, we'll get our heads together and see what we can come up with.
Edit: If we go ahead and the campsite selected is within 20 miles or so of Watton, I have an idea for Friday evening: pitch your tent, jump on the bike, pick up fish and chips in Watton and ride to chez Bixxer. I'll even buy the beers :hat10

I think maybe it might be best if we pick a date that everyone agrees on as Bixxer,BlackTiger and Fross carnt make that weekend. Having a set date for every year is a good idea but in practice maybe its not the best. I'm easy for anytime and I'd rather there be a good turn out than stick to a set date and only a few of us turn up. As I said for me it doesnt matter but what do you guys think?
I`m away in Gran Canaria first 2 weeks in July, so anything after that is good for me.
So 3rd weekend isn`t good for a couple of you, how about last weekend in July then?

Well I have to say I thought the Poll thing worked OK because we could then pick the weekend with the most votes. Alright, it takes a little longer but there'll always be some that are disappointed.
If we're doing Norfolk that weekend is ok for me, if we're doing Scotland it's not as we're racing at Pembry the previous weekend and I promised the management a few days kicking back afterwards so I don't get home from S Wales until Thursday evening.
So how about another meet later in the year for those who can`t make this one?
Maybe September time?
Just an idea :sign13

:iagree + 1 on that. I'd rather more able to attend & shift dates as necessary, than set an annual date only a few can make!
The more the merrier! :occasion14 :thumbsup
So what I think we need is another different poll with a choice for every weekend through July, August and September where....and this is the important bit....you can tick ALL the weekends that you can attend. If that's possible. Then we simply pick the weekend with the most ticks at the end of April, say.
In the meantime, the location for camping and beer and routes for rides can be sorted.
I'll pm Mustang, if that's too hard, I'll repost to say just give me the dates and I'll knock up a spreadsheet, publish it and keep it updated.
4th weekend is good for me or have to rely on gamble of applying for annual leave.
Thought this may be of interest......

I was thinking of researching some of the many byways and green lanes as well. There's a very good map with them all marked on it, BUT most are not for cars or bikes. I'll see what I can do over the coming weeks. It would be nice to find some that are off the main routes but not so challenging that they become difficult if we've had a lot of rain.

I'm good for the last weekend of July, if you was to choose that date. But I do know there'll always be someone disappointed, it'll be impossible to choose a date that suits everyone. So don't change things on my account. :doubt
After riding through Watton yesterday I can confirm the roads are nice and twisty but with fresh fallen snow during the night, I was being extra careful. Camping in the snow was fun, I admit it was a new experience for me. I met another 955i Tiger owner at the rally and suggested he has a look at this site. :thumbsup
Some nice big trailie green lanes in the Cotswolds, me I'd be happy on any weekend that wasn't in July :pottytrain2

Can't do any harm H especially if they can advise routes that are not too challenging for inexperienced riders on heavy bikes.

Didn't only FEEL like it. It WAS the only decent weather YOU saw. I had to go to Sardinia to find some. Mind you, the weather got its own back by pissing and snowing on us on the way home.
So, any update on this yet?
I checked out a ford today, only 5 miles from where I live. It was fast flowing and 18 inches deep. My 4x4 went through it no probs, but the Ford Ka didn't fare so well, owner was opening the door to let the water out :hat10

Not if we have a summer like last year.
C'mon guys, we have to out this to bed. 21 Jul doesn't suit some but its still way out in front for most. Can we go firm on that and Norfolk so I can start sorting pub / campsite etc and discussing route with Rf9 and Rybes?
BT, I know you can't make it but if you can put me in touch with the green laners I can try to work some into the route.
Just to be clear, this w'end was only bad for me if it was Scotland. As its looking like Norfolk I can do it. Fross says he can make the Sat for the run out so Black Tiger is the one losing out. Everyone else seems to be in. I'll give thisa couple of days for responses and then, all being well, get started.

No problem with me, just have to run the guantlet of applying for annual leave at work and can't be certain till about a week before.

I've never been, not on the bike anyway so Bixxer if you want to sell Norfolk as a good bikers place your going to have to impress me,lol. No pressure then.
+1 for the date/month here as well.
It'll be a struggle. Obviously there's the coastal spots, Hunstanton, Wells, Sheringham and Cromer for chips and the road is good, but well-used. In land, there are several good roads, but rideability is severely affected by weather due to the banks washing into the road easily when it rains leaving mud and gravel behind.
Black Tiger has put me in touch with the local green lane brigade so I'll be meeting with them early next month to see what they can recommend that is suitable for heavy bikes.
I'm also going to met up with Rybes and RF9 to bash some ideas about. As I said earlier, if we punt for a campsite near me, there's a good chippy nearby, and for those that want bring their chips and park up chez moi I'll get some beer in.
So, is the date and location set?
Need to know ASAP as the holiday calendar at work is filling up.

I'll get the wife to research campsites in the next couple of days but am open to suggestions. The reason for suggesting near me was because I don't get back from Wales till late Thursday night and I'll have the 'van to clean and put away Fri morning. (Have to do it straight away as there are parking issues.....)
Rf9, we need to fix up a meet with Rybes before he goes back to Denmark, can you PM me your mobile no. please?
I`ll book the time off today when i go in.
Just a reminder, this place has been highly recommended by some locals

I have noticed a few more camp sites in the area, but all are a bit remote, a few miles from the nearest ammenities though.
There is another site i pass by, just outside Swaffham on the Lynn road called Breckland Meadows Touring Park, probably a 10/15 minute walk to the pubs in Swaffham.
