I have done piles of tires in the shop and in the woods.

I had the same experiance you had,  one wrecked bead and three tubes later I swapped my first successfull tire..

advice from me is,  inflate tube a little, use three tire irons with rounded ends, and don't force anything, if your working too hard your getting ready to wreck something
