Well decided to have a play with my tiger yesterday.  Pulled the throttle bodies and replaced the gasket.  rebuilt the bike and found a crack in the stock idle control valve and the splindle lock had stripped so decided to try the airbox and idle control setup off the 955i daytona i have in the garage.

Bike started up and throttle was crisp, but idle was really low.  The 885 and 955 use a similar stepper motor (just different head) so no engine management light.

as soon as it warmed up, it began idling at 2500 rpm for some reason.   so not sure where this is heading

Did you use all of the Daytona IACV or just the motor?  If the head is different most likely it'll meter a different volume of air for the same number of stepper motor steps. If you ride it like that, the ECU will tie itself in knots trying to hold the tickover steady and trim out a rich / lean mixture because the mixture won't be responding to what the ECU expects to happen when it moves the IACV.

I used the entire setup off the Daytona.  The Daytona is a taper seat on top of the stepper motor vs the tiger that has a white disc thingy.  Going to try resetting the iac in tunecu and go from there.

I'll have a play when I get a mo.

There isn't a reset as such but you can vary the number of steps that it's open at tickover (this is the same as setting the idle jet on a carburettor). It varies from bike to bike, but (and I'm working from memory here, I can't find the reference at the moment) I think the manual said 35 steps but don't quote me.  What I do know is mine is nothing like that, more like 11.

The check is to warm the bike up (with everything else right, such as TB balance) then blip the throttle.  If it pops or bangs on the way back to tickover reduce a couple of steps then try again.  Blip several times between adjustments and don't rush it, only one or two steps make a difference once you are close.  If it bogs on the way down to tickover, add a couple of steps and try again.  Repeat until it picks up and drops back cleanly.  When I say cleanly, I mean as cleanly as possible....
