Fuel up, Did I get hosed?

Thought it was odd that I put 6.45 gallons in,and still had a bit of room in my 97 Tiger this am, had about 240 miles on her. Everything Ive read says they hold 6.3 gallons.

 took all $20 bucks worth, damn, It used to cost $20 to fill up my truck.

I think you got ripped.  I don't have a steamer but my Girly has an abvertized capacity of 6.3 and I could only squeeze 6.0 into it when I had to push it to the pump.

Yes, I was going to add that regarding the prices. I do realize were still getting a bargain comparatively speaking. Curious what diesel is per gallon in the UK, and on either gas or diesel how much of the price is taxes.

  IMO, if prices were the same here USA would fall to its knees. Everyone here drives BIG gas hogs at will. I will also admit I am guilty as well, but at least my truck gets 20 mpg and I only use it to tow a horse trailer for the most part. Time for a diesel Motorcycle. I saw one somewhere, it was impressive to say the least. some 100+ mpg, massive torque.

I have managed to pour 25 litres out of my 24 litre tank before.....no idea where the extra litre came from - especially as it only took 24 litres to fill it back up.

Yes, Apache our economic model supposedly is based on cheap energy.  I recall only 6 years ago in Austin Texas, premium unleaded, 93 octane was $0.99 per gallon. That was 1999. And two wars later we have triple that at $3.00 per gallon.  I submit to you that the price of crude and gasoline had to go up.  It was too damn cheap.  The oil industry in the Gulf, West Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado was on its knees: $10 - $20 for crude!?! I remember a guy couldn't buy a job in the bulding trades. You ought to see what the $60 -70 dollar crude has done for the business in the American West. I mean If you were breaking even at $20 what about $70?  That spread has really been the imputis for ventures across the Country and Globe.  I've seen cities like Midland/Odessa, Roswell, Artesia, Big Spring, Durango, Lubbock, Abilene, Synder, Tucumcari, amoung many other areas have a rebirth of their Oil Industry.  Now I don't like paying $3.00 a gallon for petrol, but there is an up-side.  My fuel is burned primarlily in the efforts of my construction business. When I figure a job I add in a line (in my own tabulations, not for the client) for fuel, for the duration of the project.  I didn't used to, but now the Job pays for it own fuel.  Further upside, for me and others in this region is this: The more money that is incoming into the pockets of the Oil industry the more and more money that they spend.  They re-invest that money from these gross profit takings back into their own ventures, but in the process of re-investing that money in their company they have to spend it with other companies...  The money just keeps rolling from one company to another.  And yes, to mine. So, as long as interest rates are in the dirt, the price of oil is high, hydrogen based transportation remains dirty to produce, and we still have enough oxygen to burn all the fossil fuels that we can can cram down our glutenous throats, life will be good. For a little while. One or more of the following will get us: hyper inflation, rising sea levels, oxygen depletion, skin cancer, internet porn, the break down of the traditional family, greed, envy, etc. etc.  Take yer pick.



It is kind of like taxes; I hate paying taxes.  However, I don't find it as hard to pay high  taxes if I'm getting a piece of the action in my respective business. Is this near sighted of me? Probably. Is it reality?



So, when you pay these high prices for fuel, just think of it as a subsidization payment to the Oil Industry and all related businesses. And let me thank you ahead of time.

As you say we are to used to low energy prices. in my area I see mass glut of SUV`s and the like, then people bitch about the mileage. What did they expect. Mind you ive never owned a small fuel saver nor will I If I have any say in the matter. In my 30 years of driving its been all 8mpg 4x4 trucks or something of the like. It was, and still is a mostly a unnecessary self inflicted deal. However I cant imaging transporting horses on a Tiger or Harley. We still own 4 trucks and 1 jeep and I realize its time to stop wasting so much ,so now I ride my bikes to work some 80 miles a day, Im very fortunate to be able to choose this way. I truly feel for those who need a truck out of necessity as you do to make a living.Friends whom own trucking co`s are seeing unreal fuel cost increases as expected Im not really complaning, as I understand as a corporation they are obligated to provide by law the best for the stock holders. We are fortunate to not be paying $10 per gallon and someday it might happen. Ill cross that bridge when it happens. The down side to it all is the mass cutting of jobs by corporations complaning of loss of profits, then seeing the CEO paid himself $10 million for wages that year. But then again thats just life and the American way of capitolism. Just the facts IMO. How do you explain there being a $.50 cents a gallon difference in diesel prices within a 2 mile radius here. Most of the overly high ones are  where unaware tourists will pay to fill their RV`s.  Are they getting screwed? I think so, but what ever the market will bear. How do you explain my $120K house in 95 now being worth $450K now, Greed?? your call.
