hunting & stalling

I had a day, crossing Spain, where I kept the revs much higher than usual.  I revved to the red line every now and then and generally went much faster, 110ish.  Since then, the bike will sometimes hunt and stall when idling.  The problem comes and goes and the bike goes brilliantly once underway.  I've done loads of miles since and had plenty of tanks of fuel but the problem persists.

Any ideas :?:

Seems to be fixed by the new can and remap.  The mechanic told me the stepper motor at the airbox had misbehaved and that I should WD40 it when I'm in the area checking the valve clearances.  I guess this could have been causing the hunting and stalling.

I'm summoning courage before I begin servicing.
