Re-painting my '95 cat. Decal removal question

Hello all,

Probably some of you have already solved this issue. I'd like to remove the large 'Tiger' decal from the side of the plastic without damaging the finish underneath. Is this possoble? Any tips? Thanks to all.

Not sure about the '95 but My '01 and '98 S3 both have clear coat over the decals which make them durable but impossible to remove without screwing up the finish.
