The Tiger at highway speeds?

Possible Tiger convert here!  

How does the Tiger do at highway cruising speeds?  What is the rpms at 70 mph?  Average gas economy at 70 mph?  Is there speed controls readily available for this machine?

The Tiger loves the highway, over 200 miles from a tankful, fuel economy somewhere between 40 and 50 mpg usually and with a little farkling comfortable for 500 to 1,000 mile days (longest I have done myself in 24 hours is about 900).

Revs at 70mph are pretty low, cant remember the exact figure, but you still have a lot of upside at that speed.

There are cruise controls available or you could try one of these from Stretch which do the job for next to nothing;

My Tiger does great at highway speeds.  When you get up to speed and drop her into six gear, she just purrs away.  I use one of the wrist rests that my local dealer has and it helps.

I have a couple front sprockets that I swap out depending on conditions.

The 17 is for trail use and is used very infrequently indeed, for those times when I'm on trails or in mountains for days at a time.  

But I normally keep a 19 on the front (stock is 18 ) and RPM at 70 mph is a hair over 4200.  

Considering these engines don't like to be run with a load below 3000, it's essentially ticking over at a fast idle at 60 mph.

I use a 19 front sprocket also. 70 mph is easy, smooth and plush. 90 is better, about 5500 rpm, more grins, and 50 MPG. I don't spend much time at 70.

I have an 05 955i, all stock as far as I know. Runs about 4000rpm at 70 mph, nice and smooth, plenty of power and rpms left for passing.
On the right bar end weight if I turn it counterclockwise about 1.5 turns it locks the throttle, don't know if it is a factory device or maybe not supposed to do that but it works great for cruise. haven't heard of any others like this.

I don't know Buffalo-  I think you may have a non-stock item somewhere in the mix there!  
My '06 (which I've owned since new) spins at just a hair under 4500 RPM at seventy.  This is fine with me, and I have never felt like the engine is working too hard at any (sane?) freeway speeds.

Best bang for the buck cruise control IMO is the Caterpillar O-ring.  Cheap and works like a champ!   :D  :D

The Tiger runs a little over 4K on the tach at 70 mph.  Just cruisin.  I'm getting about 50 mpg on my '08.   :lol:

WoW!  Seems like the Tiger gets much better gas mileage than the 1k Strom.  ..and 4k at 70mph is just a little past idle speed on the tach.  Sounds good!  I might have to get me a Girly!   :D

Too bad, I have to wait until May of 2009.

I have a 2008 Black Roadie.  good luck on your purchase.  Have to admit also, I'm a pretty slow rider; 70 years old.   Have had the bike about 3 mo's, little over 1,000 miles.  Traded a Bonney for it.

try moving the throttle assembly away from the bar end a little bit , widening the gap betwen the grip and bar end . It might just let more of the o-ring bite into the rubber of the grip !
Or maybe you need to decrease the gap ..............or the o-ring doesn't like your grips

you may need to roughen it up a bit...  the end of your grip migth be too slick..

mine works great,  used the same trick on my sprint...

   also do your bar end weights spin freely?  cause if so then it won't work.
