I use a small rare-earth magnet, slipped under a glove.  Then it's just a question of positioning it until you get the thread started...

Hope this helps!

GREAT idea! Thats a good tip - now I gotta find that magnet I threw away.

+1 a good deal cheaper than the commercial variant. (http://www.magneticfinger.com/resources/turnprobrochure.pdf)

The only problem comes when you are using stainless nuts, trust me to be a fly in the ointment   but someone has thought of that (http://www.hexhold.com/shop.php).
I used to have long hair, took acid and went to hip joints. Now I long for hair, take antacid and need a new hip joint

Cheaper trick:  Superglue the nut to your finger.

It's way cheaper than magnets, or gloves and the skin grows back.

i've used a dab of grease too to hold a nut to my finger while reaching into the abyss of some machines at work  8)

Sin_Tiger

And JetdocX has used a dab of superglue to hold the nut, tightened it up, dropped the socket which rolled to the other side of the garage, discovered he can't get his arm out of there and had to chew his arm off  :ImaPoser
