New Triumph Tiger Tune

Some of you will be aware that Triumph released a new tune for the Tiger last November.  I finally got round to trying it yesterday during my run to the Harley shop.  I did around 80 miles and found that in terms of power, it's about the same as the old one.  Regarding rough low revs on a light or steady throttle, it's much better.  Not perfect, but definitely better.  I just want to do some more miles now and see if the O2 sensor changes the trims for better or worse. (In my maps I disabled the O2 sensor to stop it screwing up my work but on this one I've left everything as it should be).  I'll also work out what's different and then see if I can graft my power increases onto this working base and get the best of both worlds.  I'll do that in the ECU, not on the laptop as I'm not sure whether the new tune has software changes (that can't be seen on Tuneboy or TuneECU) as well as map updates.

Did another 30 miles this morning, low revs is definitely better although below 2000 rpm is still a bit lumpy where it used to be anything below 3000 rpm.  Pickup out of low speed corners is less hesitant though still not perfect.

Crackle and pop on overrun is back where in my tune I'd pretty much eliminated it unless your were really trying.

Need to look at what the trims are doing later when I get time.

Sounding good. This is a factory re-flash correct? Just want to make sure it isn't a Tuneboy or TuneECU were you need a third party tuner.

It is,I had it put in last november before the winter set in,I'm amazed Triumph are still faffing around with Sagen system,I've found the only way to find out exactly what a new tune is doing get it on the motorway and ride a long way,you have the time to feel what the hell is going on,my bench mark is my thumb and forefinger on my left hand holding the bar end weight at around 80,and I haven't done it yet,the joys of other bikes I'm afraid.

You can blow this into your ECU using TuneECU, you don't have to pay the stealer.  As long as you back up your ECU first, you can always go back if you don't like it.

Disclaimer:  I know this works, I do it all the time.  If you do it, it's up to you to get it right,  I didn't hold a gun to your head.

Ok, I have now got this latest tune on mine, and yes much as you have reported BB, steady throttle above 3k seems much better, but the popping does seem a bit excessive, though I quite like it.

I had been running SA_Riders modified map, and although the bike went well enough, I was noticing MPG was getting a bit of a hammering 160-170 to light, as against 180-190 before.Bit of a black tailpipe aswell.

I then put the standard offroad tune in but it was like before, awful on a steady throttle below 5k.

As you say BB this later one is a big improvement for me, Ive also re-installed the earlier Tune ECU and am no longer getting time outs, that'll do for now.

I'm almost loath the ride mine,as I've found that crisp tune with great pickup is a complete pain in the arse on a long ride.

"Pain on long rides' - how so Chris ?? Inquiring minds...   Also - just put TOR exhaust on 06' Tiger - taking to dealer next week for retune. Is the TOR tune different from the 'new tune'?? - Too many Toons!

anyone know where to buy a TuneECU cable in the states?

I'll quantify my statement by saying my, sorry!! our Tiger gets used for is long distance stuff,we must have done at least 4 holidays on it at 3/4000 miles and no end of 2000 mile trips so with 30,000 miles on ,it hasn't  actually  been ridden all that many times, but when it has you have time to concentrate on what is going on,having had a trip were as we'd done 500 miles by late morning you'll get the idea.

What is wearing is vibration,I judge that by the finger and thumb test on the left hand bar end,the map I had installed last november felt crisp and I've not ridden it since, and I've been the route before what felt great 50 miles down the road drove me nuts by the time we'd done 200 miles down to Portsmouth to catch the ferry,in fact while in Spain some years ago had another tune installed it was that bad.

I only had a new tune installed because the bike was a little woollie on the bottom end,but at 90 plus ran like it was on a magic carpet,so only time will tell, now I'll hold my hands up and saying when it comes to riding a Tiger I'm the odd man out, have never forgotten over taking a guy on a Tiger going into Calais in 06 I guess he was doing 80 ish I don't think he though Tigers went that fast!!,we were running around 100/110 and had been, fuel stops excepted for over 12 hours,so you can understand I have a close to connection to the engine on my Tiger  :D ,sorry our  :D

I understand were BB is coming from, and on a bike I don't ride long distance I'd very interested, but eeking the enth degree out of my Tigger is risky for me vibe wise.

No,the new tune is the TOR tune, well see I might be on here yet cussing!!

Bixxer Bob

I get what you're saying Chris.  Vibes are not a great bother for me as serious miles or two up I take the 'Bird every time - she's turbine smooth and pulls like a train.

I've never tried to build a map that is smooth rather than powerful.  From what I learned at BSD that would need to be a fairly rich mixture.  It wouldn't greatly affect the mpg because sustained high(ish) revs on a medium throttle is no worse than ragging it everywhere around town on full taps.

If you find you can't get on with your present tune, one visit to my gaff would get you familiar with Tune ECU.  After that I can mod tunes and email them to you until you get what you're looking for.

Just an idea....

Interesting comments on your bird Bob,thats not what I've found out on the battlefield, and we also have K1200r Sport, but over a long day no match even with this winters add on's.

Chris, Oh - Ok, I think I get it. You're suggesting there's a trade off to tuning for performance vs long distance comfort. (vibration primarily) I havent noticed any vibration until about 85mph - then it just gets a bit buzzy. There arent too many places in Wa where sustained speeds over 75 wont get you a ticket. In Texas you can drive 80 in places on the interstate - but who wants to ride the interstate? Thanks for the clarification. j
