I hate rushing projects, especially maintenance, however... I just made a nice little list of "to do" to the Tiger... I wanted to wait to have all of the parts before I tore into her and the final piece (speedometer drive) should be here by weeks end, however... my only day off is Wednesday.

So, I'm going to try and get 99% of my list done on Wednesday. The longest part of the entire process is breaking down the bike to main components all at once. I've put 17k miles on it in one year of ownership, and it was sitting for the 8 years before that... so it's time for everything but valves.

This is not the order of things... just the list in general.

1. Spark plugs. (Changed at 1k miles when i got it)
2. Oil. Filter. (Done every 5k on Mobil 1.)
3. Oil line from cooler (one was crushed when I got it).
4. Clean and re-oil K&N filter.
5. Change shift lever (broke it last year, and the substitute is too short)
6. Drain coolant, flush system, refill. (It's been about 9 months.)
7. Change fuel pump (original is groaning/grinding/clicking not good)
8. Change intake gasket (you'll see why below)
9. Clean wheels, discs, bolts, hardware (got rusty from driving in salt)
10. Clean chain and sprockets. (Same as above.)
11. Check fork oil level.
12. Check rear shock adjustment.
13. Bleed/adjust brakes.
14. Check/Grease/Tighten head-bearing. (clicks under hard compression)
15. Seal leaks in exhaust at joints (silicone muffler sealant where needed)
16. Speedometer Drive replace (magnet in drive is shattered)
17. Grease axles and swingarm pivot.
18. Check spokes.
19. Lube cables.
20. Adjust throttle cable.
21... Change throttle position sensor...

That's the biggest bitch... I have to remove the intake to get at the bolts that hold it on. (THANKS TRIUMPH!!! ) When I plug the ECU into TuneECU the idle is never steady, and holding it at any RPM is impossible. The TPS is throwing faulty signals... if the bike is sitting at idle, the highlighted box with jump around 4-5 boxes in the AF chart... not good.

There's a few other things too... tire pressure, cleaning, double checking important nuts and bolts, throwing the battery on a charger during the whole process to ensure it's 100%, re-flashing the ECU...

....

The only part I'm waiting on is the Speedo Drive assembly... so I think everything else can be accomplished within a 12-15 hour period.

We'll see.

Here's what I'm hoping once I get everything 100%...

- Smooth idle. (TPS)
- Better throttle response. (TPS, cable lube/adjust, plugs)
- No popping on deceleration (exhaust and TPS should help this)
- Solid chassis. (Re-setting sag, checking shocks, headbolt, wheels and chain/sprocket clean and lube)

And having it clean... for once in... 8, 9 months?

Hopefully she'll be good for another few thousand miles!

Good luck on all that you have to get done.  Hope you manage to get all that you are planning.

I still have a ton of snow outside it will be a few weeks before I can get started with my own list.

Let us know how everything goes; issues, struggles, successes etc...

Thanks! I actually got a lot done tonight... and had the time to change the oil in my Uncle and Cousin's XR250L and XR650L...

Start:

Present:

Got the damn TPS changed:

All that's left:

9. Clean wheels, discs, bolts, hardware (got rusty from driving in salt)
10. Clean chain and sprockets. (Same as above.)
11. Check fork oil level.
12. Check rear shock adjustment.
13. Bleed/adjust brakes.
14. Check/Grease/Tighten head-bearing. (clicks under hard compression)
15. Seal leaks in exhaust at joints (silicone muffler sealant where needed)
16. Speedometer Drive replace (magnet in drive is shattered)
17. Grease axles and swingarm pivot.
18. Check spokes.
19. Lube cables.

So half way there... 99% chassis tomorrow.

I also need to check my TPS on these days.

Slotted panhead bolts will solve this TPS changin' torture I think.
